All of us try to protect beloved ones in any cost and we usually do it but in your case you might not needed to take the steps because someone else protected your beloved one. So, there is nothing wrong with you.

Yeah I think you're right. I actually don't feel bad or blame myself because I can't think of a situation where someone needed my help and I didn't offer it.
