We Are Alive! February 17th, 2022 Water Alarm

image.png

As the week flies by, I'm keeping my head above water settling some large bills. And settling some water issues.

We had a disrupted night sleep last night as our "water" alarm went off at 3:30 am. I don't think I even woke up, but staggered myself downstairs to discover the sump pump was spraying water all over the place. In my sleepy haze, I managed to reconnect and tighten the plumbing. I plugged in the pump again and it seemed to be working. In the process, I dropped the water alarm and the sound stopped - ut oh. I broke the water alarm.

image.png

I brought the water alarm upstairs where there was better light to try to fix it. After a while, after being unsuccessful in fixing it, I went back to sleep. I'm not sure I ever really fully woke up though this whole incident. I remember having a difficult time keeping balance while going up and down the stairs.

image.png

This morning we woke up to a flooded basement. About three inches of water covered the floor, damaging everything that wasn't off the ground. I didn't tighten the plumbing well enough and it came loose again. Instead of removing the water, it sprayed it all over the floor until it filled up the basement. Thankfully, simply reattaching the pipe and running the pump got most of the water out, but there are numerous puddles and the concrete is completely drenched. Also a few of the electrical plugs were damaged.

Not the most fun thing to wake up to. Especially as I thought I fixed this before it became a problem. If I hadn't broken the water alarm, I would have set it up again, and the alarm would have woken me up again when water was filling the basement.

Feeling pretty overwhelmed with a soggy basement and I can't put business on hold while I fix it.

My Buddy Cheers Me Up

As I'm taking care of business, my little buddy is on my lap keeping me company. When she's cheerful and obedient, things go well. But when she gets "whiny", it makes taking care of things very difficult.

But having her here keeping me company does cheer me up, getting my mind off the basement while it dries out. I will assess the damage this evening and get the contractor bags out. It's tricky for me not to get upset at myself or depressed over this mess, but it's just one more thing to take care of while managing a household.

Hmm those could be really disturbing sometimes, I for one don't like being disturb from my sleep.
But it seems you've adapted to the step ways, I could remember as a child, when I was wake-up to something, I sleep walk to the other street to a store I was ask to purchase something in the afternoon, I never even knew how I got their🤣( they saw me stand sleeping in front of the store after about 30minute Search).

Sorry about the water pump issues and the broken water alarm system, are you sure you can fix it(the water pump, water alarm and the electrical fuse!) or won't it be better if you invite a professional to fix it.

It's good to know you've have you lovely daughter keep you company as you fix and clear the basement.

don't like being disturb from my sleep.

I know what you mean, when the alarm went off, I jumped out of bed so quickly I almost lost my balance.

I sleep walk to the other street to a store

Wow, that's quite the story! Never sleep walked before, although maybe that was what I was doing early this morning - if I were in my right mind, I think I would have solved the problem better.

won't it be better if you invite a professional to fix it.

Simple problem, simple solution... all I had to do was tighten a single bolt and the problem was solved... but in my sleepy haze, I didn't verify it was tightened well enough. Reflecting back, I should have taken the effort to fully wake myself up and think through the situation, rather than simply "declaring" it fixed, when I didn't know that for sure.

I don't know but I believe there is a reason why it all happened like this.
I'm sure the greater good behind it will show up soon!

I agree, maybe the greater good is simply throwing away (or selling) a bunch of junk that really needs to be cleared out! This has also been a great lesson in patience. !ALIVE !WINE !BEER

Yeah, sometimes the greater good might be just a lesson to learn, but whatever it is I'm sure it's going to enrich your future.
Also, clearing the space around us often clears us inside. I don't know how this actually works, but I can testify it does, even with the most stupid, regular cleanings in the house (which, btw, I'm still not the fan of, and despite its good effect on my inner simultaneous cleaning effect). 😉😁
And when some bigger cleaning projects are in question, that afterward feeling of dismissals, reliefs, or even unburden might be priceless.
Besides all of that, you might find something (among all this stuff) you entirely forgot about it, that might be quite useful for the present moment! You never know!
However, if you take it as a new discovery adventure, you'll go through it easier and quicker, to feel at the end even more !ALIVE !!!😊

I am really sorry to hear that your basement got flooded and damaging your stuff Benjamin, I hope that you get a new water alarm and fix the pipes properly, having the drainage pump flooding it is kind of ironic, enjoy your day and stay safe, awesome and alive.

Oh no! How can you not all feel overwhelmed! Didn't you have a flooded (or almost flooded) basement last year? A water alarm is a novel thing to my mind. We have no such thing. I guess it is not something common or even in existence in the country.
