I went to school yesterday and a friend admired my hair. Then he said, I should take a photo, write about it, and tag him……hehhehehehee. So this post is dedicated to him.

For some time now, one of the things I put my money into is my hair. I was going somewhere one day, I passed a salon, and I saw a description on the billboard. The description said, “Take care of your hair, you wear it every day”.

It struck me that it was right. I had just finished high school, and the last thing I took care of in my body was obviously my hair. Making my hair at this point was so that I don’t have to comb it every.

My ICT teacher tried as much as he could to talk about how unkempt it looks if not braided. I did not give a damn, because I usually felt if something wasn’t adding to my knowledge, then I should not worry or put my money there.

And you already know, putting money in making my hair means spending money on liabilities, and not assets. But everything changed when I saw that hair description.

As fate would have it, the following week, we had this young woman relocate to our house (compound), and she was very good with her hands. The first day I allowed her to braid my hair, it was so painful, and I vowed never to let her touch it anymore.

Albeit, when I loosen that painful hair, I still went back to her. I found out she knew how to take great care of virgin hairs. She had this blow dryer in her salon that helps straighten, soften it, and makes it easier to braid.

I fell in love with her and her hands, and she fell in love with me too. Every time I go to her, she makes the most beautiful hairstyles for me.

I usually thought she was an artist because she was creative with the human head. She always holds my head, draws plans with a comb, then displays the artwork with hair materials (attachments).

At some point, I wanted to keep records of all the styles she gave me. Since I was not a photo freak, I could not keep them all.

Then one day, disaster struck, “She got married and she had to return to her husband’s place at Abak”. I did not know the repercussion it would have on me until I wanted to change my hair.

I thought of where to go to have a new hairdo but could not found a place in my head. One morning, I muster up the courage and went to a salon. My God! They used twice the material my stylist uses, yet, it came out so lousy and wrong, I could not cry.

I was ashamed of carrying that hairstyle but I did because I felt I had spent a lot of money to have it done. Once it got old, I called my stylist up. I asked her how much it would cost to meet her up, and have a new hairdo. She told me it will cost 1000 naira for transportation. I was willing to go all the way to Abak every single time for a new hairstyle.

One day, a lady on my street stopped me, and said, “Edy, your hair is nice; who made it for you?” I told her the stylist isn’t close by, and when she inquired where she lived. I told her Abak Local Government Area. She was so pissed off that I pay a transport fare of a thousand naira to get new hair when there are so many salons around Uyo.

She did not understand that I tried one, and I never wanted to take any more chances with something I wear every day. So I smiled and walked away. On other occasions, when she sees a new style, she mockingly asks if I had it done at Abak again. I often give her the same reply both in speech and expression.

This means if I don’t have enough money, I wait until I do, it doesn’t matter how long, the waiting period is always worth it. Even though I had to spend a lot of money, I prefer to get a good one than settle for less.

Making hair became an art for me. I often wonder why most women cut their hair. No way! I have invested so much in mine, there is no way, I am cutting it off. In short, I want to braid it until it extends to my waist…lol

If you have a lady who is so into her hair, do not blame her, it is because “she wears it every day”.
