Everyday hassle.

avatar

Hey move!
A harsh voice screams.
The endless struggles which seemingly prove futile.
You are confused but yet you know exactly what you want and where you're going.

Move! let other people pass or else I'd move you!
The voice comes again.
You try to hasten your pace but your legs can't carry; they aren't used to such motion.
Your countenance changes. You're struggling to trudge ahead.

Pexel
You look above to observe the faces and no on, no one is smiling! Everyone is very angry and focused.

You feel a tap on your skin and you turn to look at who tapped you. Fine girl the person says with a smile on his face.
That is supposed to be a breakthrough but it's definitely coming from the wrong person.

You get angrier. Out of that atmosphere, if you're being called a fine girl, you'd feel complimented but no, that particular (fine girl) feels disrespectful.

You keep walking and trying to get a stand. You're being pushed from front, back, left and right.

You find a place to purchase what you want and then comes the sigh of relief.
You get what you came to buy and you make your return journey.

People coughing, sneezing, spitting and displaying all sorts of bad habits. You get disgusted but can't say a word because if you do, you would get castigated. You get pushed till you lose track of where you're going.

Pexel
You struggle, strive, endure, push, jump, curse inwardly and then you arrive at your exit. Doooooooooooh! It seems heaven's gates have just opened. You hurry and find a means to get back to your abode.

By now you must have guessed what I've been talking about. Yes! A typical African Market. It is characterized by discord, havoc, restlessness, crudness, wildness and few who display their manners.

If you walk in an African market without getting bumped into or brushed by other people, you definitely may have been floating. Discord is inevitable. It has become a normalcy. So all you have to do is brace up.

This is my entry to the pob-wotw.

Thanks for reading…

With love, wongi😊

Hahahaha. Nice story with the use of the word"Discord". I like the way you played with words and that provided some humor

Hassles in life are really annoying and stressful, I know that feeling. Especially in African markets in Nigeria you keep having the feeling if you don't move fast someone will match your back foot.😅😅

If you've been to Ikorudu market, Lagos, You will really understand.😁

Omor! Lagos itself is hehehe..

I hear this quote.. "If you no wise for Lagos, you no fit wise anywhere".... Very true my dear.

Hassle up and down.

Oh yeah! Hassle up and down just to make this ends meet, Especially under such a corrupt and wicked government that has made things so difficult and costly for their citizens. You just can't take a break or else you will have nothing to eat.

Surely, That quote is correct. Hahaha🤣 Lagos is the biggest and most populated place in Nigeria and You meet all kinds of people and different ways of life there, "So if you no wise for there, You no fit wise for anywhere else."

Market hassle would always remain.
You don't expect people to come and stand in a queue and wait for their turn to shop... No .. everyone is doing it at the same time ... Sad truth.

But it's part of the spices added to the community. If the market was without hassle, it would be rather boring. .. don't you think so?

Impressive! As I read, I am transmitted back to the usual unpleasantness I face anytime I go shopping, especially on a market day.

The part I dislike the most is young men 'caressing' ladies' hands as invitation to buy stuff from their shops. Ugh! I always end up in one quarrel or the other before I am done at the market. 😆😆

What an interesting use of the word of the week! 🙂

Some font even want you to buy from their shops, they just want to spite you in one way or the other and they always succeed sometimes.

It's an entirely different world in a market. Hassle.

Thank you for stopping by dear.

If I'd read your story before writing mine, maybe I would've narrated how I got lost in Lagos market at the age of 7 and at the age of 13.

When I was 13 it wasn't a big problem, I could've found my way, if mama didn't come fore.

But at 7? It was a pure miracle.

This is just the reality of our markets. Especially in major cities in Nigeria.

My dear.. I thought it's only me that has had such an experience...

I guess when I was about 7years old too...
From when I lost track of my mom, to when I was calling out for her to when I started crying to when she was found... It was just a miracle.

Sometimes I sit and wonder... What if the market lady wasn't kind enough to find my mom for me...Heeeiw
