Silvegoldstackers, Collectors and Numismatists...

I have my own definitions of who is who:

  1. Silvergoldstacker is a person who hoards coins because of the price of the metal.
  2. Collector is a coin hoarder who hoards coins because of their historical value.
  3. A numismatist is a person who studies coins as a historical source.
    (Sorry for my bad english...)

In practice, all three categories overlap a bit. I became a collector at the age of 16. Then I studied history. I also know something about numismatics, I also studied it for a few semesters. And I became a silvergoldstacker half a year ago...

Should I only write about the modern coins I buy? Or should I also write about older pieces that I already have in my collection?

Today I look back to the past. I have selected several coins from the period of Empress Maria Theresa, *1717, reigned 1740-1780. I store coins in plastic business card cases. I assigned each ruler its color. M.Th. mine is orange.

I started collecting before computers became widespread. I write down the data about the coins manually. Here it is written that this is a Hungarian tolar from 1780, mint Kremnica. The diameter 40 mm, purity of silver 833/1000.

I bought the coin on May 2, 1989 at a merchant in Celetná Street and I paid Czechoslovak crowns 1,200... Czechoslovakia no longer exists and neither does the Czechoslovak crown. Come to think of it, it would have cost about $40 at the time. I don't know today.

One more coin. Two ducats of M.Th., Hungary, 1765... The diameter 25 mm, 6.98 g, purity of gold 986/1000. Bought at a collector's market on March 17, 2008. For CZK 6,000. That was about $280 at the time.

And these are copper kreutzers ... About 25mm, 11.3g. The first coin shows the queen with hair, the second in a widow's veil. (You know that from Queen Victoria.)

These coins have nothing to do with the #silvergoldstackers tag. But I like it. And try to find it in such quality!

I know roughly how much a person earned in the 18th century and how much they had to pay for what. I know how those coins were made. But that's numismatics, it doesn't belong in #silvergoldstackers.

I've been writing an article almost every day for the past few days. But now you can rest from me for a while. Holiday. I will not take coins with me...

The Silvergoldstackers community is about all 3 of those.
Those are some cool coins you have.
