House Of God

It's been six months since the Nigerian government officially placed an indefinite ban on Twitter because of some dumb reasons but that didn't stop most of us from getting a vpn and tweeting like nothing happened.

So like every other day, I had turned on my vpn and got on Twitter just to see if there was anything happening out there in the world that I needed to know about. I'm a hundred percent sure that if a zombie apocalypse was to happen, twitter would be the first to have the news.

First few minutes in and it looked like there was nothing new which was very strange because in a country like mine, there's always something happening somewhere and I wasn't wrong. I stumbled on a story of a lady who according to her no longer goes to church because of an experience she had.

It turned out this lady brought her fiance to come meet her pastor for counselling. They both wanted to get married and needed some "spiritual words of wisdom" from her pastor. A nice beautiful idea if you ask me, but what followed after was just terrible.

According to the lady, the pastor ended up trying to get her fiance to dump her and marry his daughter instead, simply because her fiance looked like a wealthy man. When her fiance told her what happened the moment she got home, she had been so shocked and furious and had wanted to confront her pastor about it but he had told her to let it go and just never go to that church again.

By the time I finished reading the story, I felt nothing but disgust for the "man of God" because what kind of preacher would do such a thing. Things like this is what makes me miss the good old days when people get the calling before they declare themselves ministers of God.

This days, as long as you've got the money to rent a building and buy some instruments, you can start as many churches as you want and then do whatever you want without any consequences.

I would have loved to know if she eventually married her man but then I couldn't ask because I was trying to not leave any digital footprints online just incase this crazy government decides they wanted to arrest everyone in the country who has used twitter since the ban. It's crazy I know, but with this government, nothing crazy is impossible.

Hope Twitter isn't like other social medias that come up with stories just to get people stuck to their screen and waste data reading.
Second I know things happen but one man's fault shouldn't call for a fallacy of hasty generalization. I see no reason why she would stop going to church because of just one man, if she really love God she'd look for a better denomination you f worship and stay there. Matter of fact is the minister her dad for her to take her fiance to show to him? She's supposed to go through the marriage committee and not the minister. The marriage committee would give them a date and inform the pastor about it. Period this is how it's supposed to be not going personally to meet a pastor one on one. Maybe her type of pastor is a local one.

You're right but Nigerians can be very religious and tend to seek the opinions of their religious leaders first before they do most times.
