Only the happy few

Since a few months X is paying out ad revenue to its account holders, with a few criteria. You have to have at least 500 followers and 5 million views in the last three months!

Now, I am a very curious person, so I tried to figure out how much ad revenue an account could generate.

And the come out of this enquiry is quite disappointing. There are definitely accounts that earn a decent amount of money via X. But to make a living of it, you have to be in the top 100 accounts when it comes to traffic.

Number 1, 32k USD

The top account on X is surprisingly not Elon Musk himself, nor Potus, but the pop news account @PopBase. The account earns 32000 USD monthly in ad revenue, which seems like a lot, but it is actually peanuts compared with the top accounts on Instagram or YouTube. And it goes down quickly. The number 100 account only earns 2600 USD per month in ad revenue, which is very low comared with other social networks.

The number 150 only brings in 650 USD monthly. Which isn’t worth the daily hassle of creating content. Let alone being an account that has only 5000 followers for instance. That will only bring in a few dollars monthly.
