West Ham hosted Chelsea in a tightly contested Premier League affair. Chelsea knew it would be a tough game but what they didn't know is that for every goal they score they would be pegged back and it was frustrating for them. West Ham showed character, grit and appetite to win the game which they did.

Chelsea went ahead twice through Thiago Silva and Mason Mount but were pegged back at both times with Lanzini and Bowen before Masuaku sealed the win for West Ham with a brilliant strike to confine Chelsea to a defeat. The game ended 3-2 and West Ham snatched the 3 points.

Chelsea had a chance to get ahead in the 6th minute after Reece James, who made his 100th Chelsea appearance delivered the ball into the box but Ziyech was unable to get enough touch on it as the ball was gathered. West Ham produced their moment too in the 8th minute after Bowen was found at the edge of the box. He managed to hit a shot but his effort was off the target. Soucek had his header flash off target just as Reece James' effort was also saved by the goalkeeper.

Both teams knew they needed the 3 points as Chelsea didn't want to lose their grip at the top of the table as they boast of 16 different scorers in the Premier League this season while West Ham knew they can also push up the table and who else to do it against than Chelsea.

Both sides tried to get ahead with West Ham coming close in the 19th minute. Dawson couldn't get the power he needed after a brilliant corner kick delivery and on the other end, in the 26th minute, Havertz failed to generate the needed power for his header after Reece James' delivery to him.

Chelsea finally went ahead in the 28th minute after a brilliant corner kick delivery was met with a lovely header by Thiago Silva. He nodded the ball down after he was left unmarked in the box and he punished the Hammers. West Ham responded and could have drawn level 2 minutes after when a lovely ball fell to Coufal and he blasted his shot which managed to beat the goalkeeper; Mendy but for Thiago Silva who cleared the ball from going in, West Ham would have made it 1-1.

Chelsea outdid themselves in the 40th minute as they allowed West Ham to come back into the game. Jorginho with a terrible back pass to Mendy which Mendy himself made a mess of when he should have cleared it. Bowen pounced on it and drew a foul inside the box from Mendy which the referee had no choice other than to point to the spot. Lanzini stepped up to take the penalty and sent Mendy the wrong way to bring the game level, 1-1.

Mason Mount got his second goal in a week to give Chelsea the lead just before halftime, in the 44th minute. Ziyech across field pass found Mason Mount inside the box and with a one time volley, he smashed his effort into the bottom right corner of the net to beat Fabianski at his near post. It was a smashing volley, a spectacular volley to give Chelsea the lead for the second time in the game in their London Derby match.

West Ham came back into the game in the 56th minute after a lovely strike from Bowen found the back of the net after being set up by a toe-poke from Coufal. It was a lovely strike as Mendy was well beaten for pace, 2-2.

The lively Bowen almost gave West Ham the lead in the 75th minute after Antonio brilliantly fought for the ball and kept it. He managed to flash the ball across the face of the post and Bowen was unable to direct his effort goal-ward as he failed to connect with the ball well. A minute after, Jorginho almost made up for his terrible back pass that led to the penalty after his low drive strike was diverted for a corner kick by the foot of Diop.

Masuaku, the substitute that came in for Johnson who got injured in the first half got his first goal in the Premier League and West Ham's third goal after he blasted a dipping shot that found the top left corner of the net from an impossible angle to give West Ham the lead for the first time in the game. West Ham completely turned the game around and knocked Chelsea off the top spot if City and Liverpool win their respective games. Bowen should have added the 4th after he was played in and he instead blasted his effort over the bar from a tight angle. It would have been subjected to a VAR check had it gone in.

The game ended 3-2 in favour of West Ham as Chelsea lost by 3 goals away from home.
