It was a thrashing for Club Brugge at the hands of Manchester City in their third game of the UEFA Champions League campaign. Almost everyone must have expected Manchester City to win and they did it to perfection on the night.

City got off to a flying start and Cancelo, Mahrez (2 goals), Kyle Walker and Palmer all heaped the heavy burden on Brugge who only got a consolation goal through Vanaken. It was a thorough thrashing from City as the game ended 5-1.

City had a chance in the 27th minute after Foden orchestrated a move and he found Bernado Silva just with the right pass. He attempted to give the ball back to Foden who missed it but it fell to De Bruyne and his tame effort was straight at the goalkeeper. Had it gone in, there would have been a VAR check to see if truly Bernado Silva was offside as the lineman pulled the offside flag up.

City went 1-0 up in the game after a brilliant long ball found Cancelo inside the box in the 30th minute. His first touch with his chest was brilliant as he brought the ball down, held off his man and poked the ball home in-between the legs of the goalkeeper. In the 43rd minute, City went 2-0 up after Riyad Mahrez was brought down just inside the box. He stepped up and converted the spot-kick with ease as he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way.

City weren't done and in the 53rd minute, a cheeky pass from Kevin De Bruyne was placed for Kyle Walker whose first touch nudged the ball off his marker before slamming home his shot to increase City's advantage to 3-0. It got worse for Club Brugge in the 67th minute when Palmer got his first goal in European football after receiving a pass from Sterling on the left side of the pitch and with ease and precision, he produced a brilliant finish that found the back of the net, 4-0.

The consolation goal came for Club Brugge and you can see the excitement from the home fans after Vanaken guided the ball home in the 81st minute. Their consolation goal only lasted for 3 minutes a lovely long ball found Mahrez who beat the offside trap to race clear one on one with the goalkeeper as he smashed home his effort.

The game ended 5-1 and there was never a doubt regarding the gulf in class between the two sides.
