In Street Photography the More "Invisible" I am, the Better - Part 2 (FINAL)

In addition to discretion and common sense, another very important factor for photographing "invisible" on the streets is security.

As I mentioned in the previous post, the risks when shooting on the streets, not only here in Brazil, but in the world, are great.

It is not every place that the photographer should stop and photograph, it is not every camera that serves to photograph on the streets. You won't be shooting on the streets with a DSLR camera and a 600 mm lens, will you? Hope not.

Over the years that I photograph on the streets, I have developed some security techniques that I would like to share with you and that I will number below:

1.Don't hunt!

Don't go "hunting", taking pictures all over the place when you are on the streets, it can get a lot of people's attention and get attention is something we don't want when we are practicing "street photography".

2.Clothes matter.

No going out in flashy clothes, with vibrant colors to shoot on the streets. Prefer clothes with neutral colors. In my personal experience, I prefer to photograph on the streets of the city with black clothes or a combination of black, gray or white on the pants or shirt.

3.Prefer a small camera.

A large camera is not suitable for street photography (no DSLR, please!). Prefer mirrorless cameras, zoom cameras or compact cameras for your urban expedition.

4.Don't stand still!

Don't stay in the same place for so long time in search of the "perfect photo". Go walking, walk through the streets of the city, explore and discover your space.

I believe that with these basic instructions we can now start shooting on the streets more safely. All additional learning will be gained from experience, knowledge about your city and the environment in which you live.

Good luck, success and thank you!
