To the Švihov Misty Castle / Na mlžný hrad Švihov

Our trip with @zenuska and @terezka1 will start at the main train station in Pilsen. We will board the express train towards KLatovy.
After about forty minutes of driving, we leave the southern Pilsen region and enter the Švihov Hills.
We will get off at the train station called Švihov u Klatov.

Náš výlet se @zenuska a @terezka1 začneme na hlavním nádraží v Plzni. Nastoupíme na spěšný vlak směr KLatovy.
Zhruba po čtyřiceti minutách jízdy opouštíme jižní Plzeňsko a vjíždíme do Švihovské pahorkatiny.
Vystoupíme na nádraží jménem Švihov u Klatov.

The majestic moated castle can be seen from afar. The advantage of moated castles is that they are not located on a hill, but mostly in lowland meadows. Even Švihov is no excuse.
I will follow the tourist signs to the castle. It is a short walk from the train station to the castle, about 1 km.

We will walk through the square in Švihov. It is lively here, because a fair is currently taking place at the castle.

And we are already in front of the gate. It is November. There is fog all around and it covers the entire castle...

Majestátní vodní hrad je vidět zdaleka. Výhoda vodních hradů je, že neleží na kopci, ale většinou v nížinných lukách. Ani Švihov není výjimkou.
Na hrad půjdme po turistických značkách. Z nádraží je to k hradu kousek, cca 1 km.

Projdeme přes náměstí ve Švihově. Je tu živo, neboť na hradě se právě koná jarmark.

A už jsme před branou. Je listopad. Vůkol panuje mlha a zahaluje celý hrad...

It was rebuilt from the original fortress at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries by the builder Benedikt Rejt at the instigation of Půta Švihovský of Rýzmberk into a late Gothic fortress surrounded by a system of moats fed by the Úhlava River.

Ten byl přestavěn z původní tvrze na přelomu 15. - 16. století stavitelem Benediktem Rejtem na popud Půty Švihovského z Rýzmberka na pozdně gotickou pevnost obklopenou soustavou vodních příkopů napájených z řeky Úhlavy.

The castle courtyard is bustling, the fair is in full swing. Some parts of the castle are also accessible, so we visit them. The entrance fee is 60 CZK for adults and Terezka has not paid yet.

Na nádvoří hradu je rušno, jarmark je v plném proudu. Přístupné jsou i některé části hradu, tak je navštívíme. Vstupné činí 60 Kč pro dospělé a Terezka ještě neplatí.

The dominant feature of the castle core is the large tower. It is accessible by a separate visitor circuit.

Dominantou hradního jádra je velká věž. Zpřístupňuje ji samostatný návštěvnický okruh.

We will go to the White Bastion to see the Cinderella exhibition. Part of this famous fairy tale was filmed here at the castle.

My se půjdeme podívat do Bílé bašty na výstavu o Popelce. Zde na hradě se natáčela část této slavné pohádky.

The exhibition is accompanied by simple tasks and a quiz for children.

Výstava je doprovázena jednoduchými úkoly a kvízem pro děti.

We will also see an exhibition of wood carvings in the hall opposite the castle core. Terezka will be interested in paper models and a book of photographs.

Prohlédneme si i výstavu dřevomaleb v sále naproti hradnímu jádru. Terezku zde zaujmou papírové modely a kniha fotografií.

After visiting the stalls, we will set off on a journey around the castle.

Po prohlídce stánků se ještě vydáme na cestu okolo hradu.

We have a journey across a small ford, using the stones placed in the stream of the relief canal. Terezka likes this kind of journey.
And finally, an adventurous crossing over the weir. That's something. There's no danger of boredom on the tourist signs.

Čeká nás cesta přes malý brod, využíváme kameny položené v proudu odlehčovacího kanálu. Terezce se taková cesta líbí.
A nakonec dobrodužný přechod přes jez. To je něco. Na turistických značkách nuda nehrozí.

Evening is approaching. The fog has lasted all day. We rush to the station. The train leaves in ten minutes. It emerges from the fog like a ghost...

Blíží se večer. Mlha vydržela celý den. Spěcháme na nádraží. Vlak jede za deset minut. Vynořuje se z mlhy jako přízrak...

Get on and go home. It was a nice trip.

Nastoupit a šup domů. Byl to hezký výlet.
