The Last and Greatest Day of Sukkot: Baptism, Bible Reading and Fireworks

The Eighth Day

The most special day of Sukkot is the last and greatest day of the feast, which is called "The Eighth Day". This is the day that Yeshua had the greatest "Come to Jesus" moment in all of history:

On the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood up and called out in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said: ‘Streams of living water will flow from within him.’ ” John 7:37-38

What better day to go down to the river for immersion!

Baptism

We went down to the river for baptisms. There was a lot of talk about how COLD the water will be, but for Michigan folk, it was not cold at all.

One of my daughters wanted to be baptized, so we made the trip to the swimming hole. It was a small park by the river, excellent place for baptism.

Zac gave a good overview of Baptism in the Old Testament, that it's not just a Christian denominational concept.

I asked Lauren if she wanted to be baptized and she said "yes". It was my honor to baptize both my wife and my daughter that day... but the special surprise is when my oldest also decided to be baptized in the river too!

We don't have a lot of photos of this particular day, since we were in the water. Daniel refused to stay on the shore, so I baptized holding my little one. He was a little traumatized when daddy slipped into the water and he got pretty wet. Oops.

Another Sukkot group came to the river and had another sermon and group of baptisms. Someone brought a guitar and had some praise and worship at the river!

Gathering Together for the Word

We met afterward at the pavilion for a bible reading, mostly surrounding the great final day of Sukkot. We are nearing the end of the feast.

The bull sacrifices in the Temple during Sukkot add up to 70, representing the 70 nations: this is a celebration for the NATIONS!

Fireworks

The climax of the festival is a massive firework display in a field. Although the fireworks are launched a ways away, it's close enough that viewers get a sprinkle of ash during the event.

So the Feast is Over, But Our Time in Arkansas is not.

The next day is packing up and visiting with the @dwells family, setting up on their property and spending Shabbat with their family. Bonus!

I hope you've enjoyed this little series on Sukkot in Arkansas and hope you stay with me as we review preparing for Shabbat and the restful day ahead.

Shalom!

Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin

We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.

No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13

Teach Your children Liberty from Tyranny

Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations. Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books.
