During Everton's game against Arsenal yesterday, an incident occurred when Ben Godfrey of Everton tried to mark Arsenal's defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.
Eventually, the tackle went so bad that Godfrey stamped his studs on Tomiyasu's face. Nonetheless, a few Ex-defenders have revealed that the Everton defender took that action on purpose.
Everton vs Arsenal (Monday night football):

The game was no doubt one filled with a lot of tense and strong challenges. Arsenal looked to get back to winning ways after the loss to Manchester United.
For Everton, their manager Rafa Benitez was at the brink of being sacked. With these in mind, the two teams gave their all. However, it was eventually Everton who came out the happy ones on the night.

The incident between Godfrey and Tomiyasu:

It was first a challenge for the ball between Everton's Allan and Arsenal's Japanese right back Takehiro Tomiyasu. However, the ball got deflected and went to the legs of Godfrey.
On seeing Godfrey being let loose on the counter, Tomiyasu decided to close him down a little bit strongly. Leading to a clash of bodies that left the Japanese on the ground.
While Tomiyasu landed to the ground with his head away, Godfrey then stamped his stud on the chin of the Japanese. A move that looked quite avoidable, bearing in mind Godfrey still had his balance.

Summary:

After the VAR check, Godfrey was let to go free. Nonetheless, the likes of Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville have revealed that it was an intentional move by Godfrey.
It would be great to see the officiators begin to impose stricter measures on such tackles. In other to eliminates those from the game of football.

Things like this in football sometime makes me think about how difficult it must really be for referees to make some certain decisions. Just imagine the occurrence in the recent match between Manchester United and Arsenal, the goal Smith Rowe scored could have been ruled out by another referee you know?
