I looked up from the bucket of suds and nodded. “Yes dad, I’ll be done in just a minute.” “I’m done dad, I’ll be right there.” “Yes, just finished,” I replied.

I went upstairs to my room to put on some clothes and then walked out of the house towards the car wash. My dad was standing there waiting for me. He looked at me and said “You forgot something in the house Emeka” I looked up from my book and saw him standing there with a look of concern. He was not used to me being this quiet; I always had something to say. “Yes sir, I will be right there,” I replied. I walked back inside the house and saw my mom standing there with tears in her eyes. “What’s wrong mom?” I asked, as I began to feel a sense of panic. “Emeka, your father has been in an accident, please go quickly.” I put down my book, got up from the couch and walked towards him. When I got close enough he grabbed my hand and pulled me into a hug. “I love you son,” he said in a very serious tone. I looked at him confused; this was not like him at all. I went back to my room and got the book that I had forgotten. I walked out of the house towards the car wash; my dad was standing there waiting for me.

He looked at me and said “You forgot something in the house Emeka” I got up from my chair and walked into the house. I looked around for a few minutes before realizing that I had forgotten to get my guitar out from under my bed. “Emeka, you forgot something again,” my dad called out as I walked back outside. I put my book down and walked back into the house. I was expecting to hear my dad’s voice saying “Hurry up Emeka, I don’t have all day.” But when I got inside, there was no one there.
