"Document 13" A Dystopian Tale: Part 22

Welcome to Part 22 of "Document 13", a dystopian graphic novel I'm creating with my daughter. Today we find out some of the names of the Immortal Seven. I'm pretty bad with naming, so if you have suggestions I'd love to hear them.

The year is 2074, the world has been plunged into darkness. One girl, Sarah Doe, will learn the secrets of the dark forces that run the ruined world. With the help of a few friends, her family, and her own powers she will fight to return the world to an order not known since well before her birth. Will she succeed? Read to find out!

Scene: Morning outside the lab. The orphans are coming out of the lab airlock and moving towards two dogs at the end of the street. The dogs take notice.

Dog 1: This is a restricted area! Leave at once!

Orphan 1: Not a chance.

Dogs in unison: Final warning, leave the area at once!

Orphan 2: No, I don’t think we will.

Dogs in unison: Lethal force activated!

The dogs arm their guns and aim them at the orphans.

Dogs: Firing!

The dogs begin to shoot and the orphans scatter. Three go one way and four go another. The dogs split up and give chase. The orphans maneuver and circle around each dog, drawing fire but nimbly avoiding each shot. One orphan is hit but continues as though nothing happened. She joins a group circled around a dog. Each orphan grabs a leg. Another orphan is hit. She falls but gets back up and grabs the head of the second dog with two other orphans at the lega. They pull in unison and the legs and head all come off in a rain of sparks.

Orphan 1: Now we must find our main target, Sarah Doe.

The two hit by bullets hang in the back of the group and they all start moving in formation down the streets.

They encounter another pair of dogs and quickly dismember them too, but without casualty this time.

Scene: Alleyway. Sarah is resting against a wall, moving her shoulder gently.

S: (The doctor was right, I do heal quickly.)

She walks to the end of the alley. There is a sign which says “Safety Corridor” and she can see a few people milling down the streets. She slips into the street and looks for a sign.

S: (SW…. Closer…. I wonder where the orphans are.)

Scene: Afternoon. The orphans are standing near a sign that says “NE”.

Orphan 1: Dr. Bureau said Sarah was heading to the orphanage. I guess he was wrong. We’ve checked every alley…

Or 2: What are we doing, Rachel?

Or 1: What do you mean, Ari? We are looking for Sarah Doe.

Or 3: She’s right, I don’t remember where we have been.

Or 1: Ugh, am I the only one still on objective?

Or 4: I remember our objective. And the dogs. How are your wounds, Allison?

Or 5: Healed… but how?

Or 1: (Sighing) Since we’re almost there, let’s just head to the orphanage.
