"Inheritance" - Chapters 53-56 - My Thoughts

MANY MEGA Spoilers!!!

Chapters Read:

  • A Question of Character
  • The Vault of Souls
  • Lacuna, Part the First
  • Lacuna, Part the Second

Once again, I feel absurdly lucky and privileged to get to enjoy this book. I've said it about a thousand times but these four chapters may indeed be the best four chapters of the series. Everything Eragon and Saphira have been through has led to this. Just incredible! 'Inheritance' is really one of the best books I've ever read and I am convinced now. My opinion has not changed since I last read it. Truly wild to me how powerful books can feel and how great they can make you feel. It's stunning that more people don't read. Then again, I haven't read in years and also, not EVERY book is amazing LOL.

But seriously these chapters were so powerful, and beautiful that it just blew me away. Books must be the closest thing to magic.

A question of character was a lot more elegant and interesting than I remembered. What a powerful cool idea, trying to search within and be critical, and learn your true name. So happy for Eragon and Saphira. Eragon considering 'what do I want?' really was such a good moment. Sometimes you get pulled in a lot of directions in life.

The 'Vault of Souls' was so interesting and just the name of the chapter feels exciting, and it was. All the way from the first half/early portions of 'Eragon' to 'Inheritance' finally. A full circle moment, and reaching destiny. Just love it. In this chapter as they venture downward to the vault and Eragon, Saphira and Glaedr set forth into the unknown. Saphira says the simplest but most powerful quote I've heard in the series so far. I mean these books are long and there's a lot to choose from but still. This quote came in the chapter 'The Vault of Souls' though and so just the context and everything was so cool. The quote does stand alone well by itself of course:

"When have we ever had any choice but to go forward?" - Saphira Bjartskular

Dude. That is simple, powerful, and wise. Just so nice. I really needed to hear that right about now, in my life.

'Lacuna, Part the First' and 'Lacuna, Part the Second' were amazing! It's funny, prior to 'Inheritance' getting released an old friend of mine had predicted that Eragon would have to discover more Eldunarí and it was cool that he was correct! Still what a moment! My friend did NOT however predict that there'd also be dragon eggs!! Outstanding!

If this Disney+ TV show comes out one day, this scene is going to be EPIC.

Anyway, the whole discovery and process was great. Again, it's incredible Eragon and Saphira have come this far.

Funny thing is, many fairly big details I had forgotten about, similarly to the magic that causes amnesia/memory loss for people who know of the Vault of Souls and Rock of Kuthian. That's trippy!

I forgot that Cuaroc was even there guarding the vault, I forgot Oromis was involved in the scheme to hide the Eldunarí and eggs, I forgot the Eldunarí were literally helping the war and various events in Alagaësia like helping the egg move up the Spine near Eragon, was helping Brom and they were responsible for telling the werecats this information about the Menoa Tree and Rock of Kuthian!!

Crazy how much I forgot! It was like I was under the spell too LOL. But yeah, in general re-reading this is pretty amazing. It truly feels like I read this a lifetime ago. Crazy.

Also, it's intriguing that the Eldunarí didn't help Roran whatsoever in his adventures. Interesting that even Eragon asked, Eragon seemingly is as mind-blown as everyone that Roran has come so far.

These chapters were seriously magical in every way. These events are a long time coming and yeah, it feels grand and satisfying. SHEESH.

I do remember the ending to this book and I'm sorta scared and reluctant to go there. LOL. I wonder how that's gonna go for me personally.

I'm so ready though!!! This book is ridiculously good!!
