Frosty Close Ups: amazing icy art by Mother Nature

avatar
(Edited)

Hi there my Hivean friends and followers!

Finally, after weeks of bad weather, we have been enjoying some sunshine too here in the Czech Republic. The temperatures, however, are still freezing and this unique combination of sun and coldness creates some beautiful frosty artworks out there in nature.

A couple of days ago, I headed out to the Prokop Valley, one of my favorite natural places here in Prague, Czech Republic to capture some of this frozen beauty for you. The most interesting ice formations can be naturally found on and in the water so I picked the Prokop Creek as the location for my photo shooting. The creek is actually pretty little and narrow but still big enough for Mother Nature to conjure up some impressive creations on it so let´s take a look at some of the pictures that I took there :)

I hope you liked the shots. You better do guys because I almost fell in the water several times as I was taking the photos while balancing on the super slippery frozen stones and banks of the creek :D But yeah, it was fun even though the passing by hikers had no clue what I was doing, especially with the low angle shots that had me crouching in some very weird positions :D

The shooting must have been even more challenging for my old phone camera. It doesn´t support the long exposure feature that would surely make the photos look better and the strong contrast between the objects lit up by the low winter sun and the shades was sometimes a bit too much for the phone to handle too but other than that, I´m pretty satisfied with the results.

The weather forecast says we are about to experience some big changes in the next few days with the temperatures climbing up to as high as 10 C (50 F) soon so this might well be the last frosty post of this winter from me. Would be perfectly fine with me though as I cannot wait to welcome the spring here :)

I love all these amazing photos.
I live in the south of Vietnam, where I can not see snow or ice.
And your photos remind me of my wish of seeing the snow with my own eyes instead of watching them in the photos or movies.

Thanks for your nice feedback :) Well, snow and ice may look nice in photos but I´m pretty sure you would have enough of it after a few hours or days :D Here in Central Europe, winter can be very long and depressive with freezing temperatures, cloudy skies and very little sunlight and daylight... Be grateful for where you live :D ;)

I love the blue, purple and indigo colors these photos have. It looks amazing. I might share some snowy photos myself these days.
We have good weather, sunny most of the time. But the temperatures were under 0°. Freezing like hell 🥶🥶

Awesome, I will check them out :) Yeah, same here, sunny but freezing. But the sun only came out a few days ago. It was cloudy for weeks here before...

Dude, this is such an awesome variety of water in so many shapes and states of transitions from solid to liquid and the contours and lighting is all spectacular. This is one of the coolest winter ice posts i have seen so far. Really fun to just look at because it's almost like abstract art. Thanks for freezing to get the shots to share! Cheers

Wow, thank you so much man, this comment really means a lot, especially with the amount of posts you curate every day. Really happy about the feedback on this one, seems that the freezing and falling into the creek (almost :D) was worth it :) Have a great weekend mate, cheers from Prague!

I'm not bullshitting you either! And, Winter is the season for these kinds of posts. Nature does the heavy lifting but i get to do the sifting. I laughed when i read you almost fell in the creek. It was worth it and glad you didn't. Take care from a Texan here in Sweden.

A Texan in Sweden? Wow, I didn´t know :) Thought you were based in the US... So these frosty scenes are nothing special for you I guess, must be very common in Sweden in this part of the year.

It's always special to me. I had seen snow maybe 3 to 5 times in my life in Texas and only 1 or 2 times did it stick for a few hours. We get ice from time to time... but NOTHING like this kind of Scandinavian Winters. I have been back and forth between Texas and Sweden. I don't know if i will ever get used to this kind of cold. BUT, come Summertime i can run laps around these folks that can't handle 80f / 26.6c HAHAHHAHAHHAHAHA

I read some of the comment thread about the Blurt stuff earlier on another post. I saw you over there and skimmed a bit of the threads. Now, i feel even better about the Blurt decision after hearing some of your thoughts and comments about that situation. I don't understand how (whoever built that place) they don't see how NOT having a downvote button is a good thing.

What if i just make 1000 bots and have them all shitpost and circle-jerk each other until i am a millionaire off of my .004 cents a pop that nobody can every cancel out, even if it's clearly abuse and negative to the platform? I'm sure they have some answer/reason/excuse to justify it. That was more rhetorically asked... hahaha
Cheers mate!

That´s interesting :) I have lived in different places too, from tropical Central America to as far north as Poland and most of the time, my body adapted quite well after some time. Well, except the summer in Mexico with those 40 C real-feel days and 35 C nights, that´s where I struggled pretty bad actually :D

As for Blurt... not really much to say. From what I have observed, it´s where exposed Hive abusers and scammers end up and some of them even seem to "run" that chain so it can never work out well. And yeah, the missing downvote feature is surely a part of it for the exact reasons you mentioned, even though they argue that it actually is a good thing. Ridiculous.

Yeah, Texas is closer in climate to Mexico as you mentioned. Summers can be dreadful... but you get used to it kind of... well, if you grow up in it i suppose.

Thanks for filling me in a bit on Blurt. What you just said is essentially the behind the scenes conversation... but that comment thread was pretty much the public discussion of what private stakeholders have been feeling and discussing for a while. I thought that dude was chicken shit for trying to throw shade at you for standing up for your own ethical choice. Take care man!

Well, the creek is pretty clean but I still don´t think licking those ice crystals would be a good idea :D Btw that comment about the inside of the fridge was cool (literally) :D Thanks for swinging by!

Wow, amazing ice formations, and very diverse as well. I'm already regretting that I didn't go to Lake Balaton this week, where the ice storm a few days ago created similar miracles. The weather is getting warmer before I can go there, the ice wonders will already melt!

0

Yeah, these icy creations usually don´t last long. It can be still freezing in the shade but when they get hit by direct sunrays, they melt alway really fast. I was lucky I guess :) Hopefully, you will have another chance to visit the lake and take some cool shots there. The generation of my parents used to go to Balaton very often, it was a popular holiday destination for Czech and Slovak people during the communist regime.

It doesn't snow where I live, but if we do see snow, we have to go up to 7000 feet. You are lucky to live in beautiful country. I also have a passion since my childhood. One day I would like to go to such an area where it snows. All the pictures looks so beautiful and amazing. One i will visit your country be because it is very cool and beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
