The brush fires are continuing both day and night, up at the logging clear cut on Sumas Mountain!
I believe the loggers started burning these scrap wood fires, well before Christmas!😮
It has been a while since Silvertop hiked to the top…………today was a good day to explore!😊
So much heavy equipment is needed to clear this Mountain, before they can even begin to start replanting with baby trees!😇
Sitting behind a log, I discovered four yellow pressure pump up backpacks, marked “Indian Fire Pump”.
At first I thought these were filled with diesel fuel, or kerosene, to start the fires.
I shared a photo with ChatGPT and ask what these yellow plastic tanks were used for………….
“Silvertop, these backpacks are also used by the Forest Service. They are filled with water, and are used to put out spot fires, they do not contain anything other than water!”
“Thanks Chat GPT for the information!”👍😊
Just after these photos, I snapped a photo of two gasoline powered fans!
These are used to “Fan” the flames of the very wet wood, to help start, and keep the numerous fires burning!
Today everyone was already gone for the day……….
The smell of wood smoke filled the air, from the many still smoldering fires on this Mountain side!🔥
Broken clouds at about 3,000 feet were rolling in from the Ocean…….
I checked my weather app on my iPhone…..
Nothing but Sunshine for tomorrow…..Nice!😎
Silvertop checked the time………..
I had about thirty minutes till sunset. I guess it was time to head back downhill!😇
I paused for one more deep breath, and to take in the view, one last time for today!😊
Even with the clear cut, it’s still so impressive up top, I need to come back up here more often!😇

I would not have guessed that they actually fan the flames of those fires! They're often big enough to be seen from Lynden, burning on the sides of the mountain. Crazy!

That's one thing that I've never tried, at least yet, asking AI about things like that, and with a photo to boot! That might be a very interesting area to explore. I'm sure the original forest was a lot prettier, I'm glad that you have a lovely hike to the top, my friend! Enoy the sunshine! 😁🙏💚✨🤙
AI can be wrong at times I tend to check ChatGPT and also Grok. And if they concur then I'm pretty sure the answer is correct!!😇

Enjoy that sunshine! Those are some fun big boy toys for sure. But the burning of scrap wood has to get old. Are they going to develop the land or reseed it?
From what I understand the loggers have no interest in developing the land, they plan on re-planting trees. That being said... I'm sure if they sell this property to someone else, they will probably put homes up there, I can't see any other use or reason, for all the roads they put in!!😇
News flash! A report today indicates that local troubled youths made their way atop of Sumas and extinguished a fire they have purposely set. It is believed that the Yellow water reserves were mistaken for diesel. The forest service thanks these unnamed youths for their service. Remember, only you can prevent forest fires. Authorities will release the youths to their parent's custody at an undisclosed time.

This story sounds like my youngest son in Colorado, where I was trying to burn sagebrush in the pasture.
I looked out the window to see Billy AKA "Bill" with a shovel putting the fires out as quick as I lit them!😳
I remember him saying......
"But Dad the fires are out of control!!........

When I saw the fan, I asked myself what is that for?!

I think they are required to replant baby trees or they get taxed heavily by the state @silversaver888🙄
From what I understand even after planting the baby trees they are going to sell at least two parcels for new homes!😀
