What’s That In The Sky?!……..My Actifit Report Card: February 12 2026

What’s that in the sky?! No, it wasn’t a pine tree. I didn’t want to spoil what was one of the most magnificent things I think I’ve ever seen-well maybe except for the Northern Lights!

I was on the way to work and had to run by the post office to get the clinic mail. Upon exiting the car to go in, I heard a loud cacophony of sound towards the south! I almost couldn’t believe my eyes……there were so many of them! I took a quick video, but it didn’t pick the sound up too well. I went into the post office to retrieve the mail and to drop some into the mail slot. Upon turning around, they were so much closer! I headed out and here’s what I saw.

It was a vast-and I mean vastly huge, flock of birds! They were moving in cyclonic fashion, going round and round.

These just weren’t any birds! They were ducks! Thousands of them!!

They were so LOUD! 😳🙀 I was enthralled. I also have to admit that it was a bit eerie as well. I’ve never seen ducks behave in this fashion before. It made me wonder if they were sensing something that was about to occur. After I’d gotten a good video which I’ll share here, I asked ChatGPT just what was going on.

In a nutshell, the Everson valley where the Nooksack River flows is a migratory alley, so to speak, for many birds including these ducks. They gather and fly in a large circle which is instinctively orchestrated. They will communally agree when it’s safe to land and then like someone flipped a switch-they’ll do just that apparently all at once. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to witness that part as I couldn’t spend the morning gawking at them-but I wanted to!!

There were small flocks coming from several directions that joined the circle. I am glad I wasn’t in the midst of it-can you imagine the potential for duck poo bombs? 😳

Needless to say, work was kind of dull after that experience! Just a me, myself and I day. I got a lot done, and with another like day tomorrow, I’ve got a small list of things to accomplish.
