Found An Old Box of Treasure
Years of Various Local Coin Shop Pickups
It is always fun rediscovering old treasure and having years of random visits to coin shops makes for interesting treasure to say the least. I opened the box and saw all sorts of shiny.
A 1964 Proof Set
These coins are still in prestine condition, just as shiny as when they were minted. They came in this interesting form, with all the coins flipped every which way. But it adds to the appeal (in my opinion) in this collection.
I wish I had kept the price sticker on this one, because I remember purchasing it cash for a really good price, even back in the day. If I were to guess, I purchased this around 2006/7.
The half dollar looks so large compare to the other coins. It has a nice mirror finish and deep contors. Very handsome.
They don't make quarters the way the used to. Silver has such a nice color to it, making our current dross coins look pretty dull.
The color difference between the nickel and dime is very noticable.
I can make out the details of Lincoln's bow tie on this penny!
The detail on proof coins always impresses me.
That eagle is leaning a little... is it a "right leaning" eagle? Or would that be "left leaning"? Either way, one wing is higher up than another!
It's sort of tempting to put some gloves on and turn that nickel right-side-up again!
I hope you enjoyed this close up look at one item from the treasure box. This is only one of many items stuffed in there. It will be fun to go through some of the other treasures!

Bless the Most High!

Super cool that's an old one! I've been getting the sets are a yearly Christmas gift but recently stopped however the older ones I highly value and look for the new ones idk they just don't have the same feel anymore. Do you have a fav year?
I like the designs from the '50 best, the wheat penny and Franklin half-dollar. I found a similar set to this one, except from the 50's.
That looks really nice. I have seen some people focus on these good condition coins but I don't think I have seen many people displaying them.

These sets seem to get overlooked a lot. They film pretty well.
Oh, I love how shiny they look. Euros don't have that shiny look.
Can I ask you a question?
Who is depicted in half dollar coin? Is it Kennedy?

They are minted as "proof" which gives them a mirror finish. They've never been touched by human hands (supposedly). 1964 was the last year US coins were made using silver, so they have a nice shiny white color to them. Because it was a new design and word got out that year would be the last year for 90 percent silver half-dollars, these coins were horded by the public.
Yes, it's Kennedy. He was put on the half-dollar after he was assassinated. Some back in the day found that in bad taste, but the designs hasn't changed since 1964 I actually prefer the previous design, which had Benjamin Franklin on the obverse.
Great shiny thingies ;) My coins got lost ....guess that´s what happens when you´re moving to another country

OH sorry you lost your coins! Where did you move from/to?
From the Netherlands to Spain, but stored many boxes in 3 different places including my ex-father in law where I probably never get my boxes from ever again
Aww, bummer man. Ex-father in law is pretty distant.
Perfect preservation of coins is very pleasing to the eye)

Thank you, yes they jumped out at me from the display case.
I absolutely love the way that Nickle looks!

It got flipped turned upsidedown!
Them are some shiny coins! I think all stackers have that box that has some long forgotten coins/bullion in it :)

It was fun to find this old box, I figured it was old schoolbooks or something. Imagine my surprise when I discover it's full of silver coins!
Fantastic, I only have a liberty dollar myself.

Some of my favs.
Proof sets are great to collect and fun to look at. Thanks for sharing.

Nice proof set, Benjamin. That will be worth holding onto for the kids.

That is a beautiful proof set. I think the only one I have is a 1961 set. I have done more constitutional silver and 1/10 oz gold pieces. Enjoyed.
I'd be tempted to straighten out these coins too.
The previous owner must have been in some rush to get them into this Capitol Plastics coin holder.
That's an awesome proof set weather they are all straight or not.

Did @trumpman send you an offer to buy all of those coins already?

There's nothing like finding little treasures like that!
I dragged all my coins from my collection with me to Mexico from Ireland. I had planned to sell them to fund out move but didn't need to in the end.
Now I'll just hold on to them for a while longer and pass them on to my kids.
