Autumn Krkonoše Mountains - Day 2

(Edited)

Welcome back to the second installment of my autumn rambles in the Krkonoše Mountains. In the previous episode, I got to one of the shelters above the Špindlerův mlýn to spend night. The night was cold, which can be expected in the mountains in mid-September.

Because I needed to warm up, I immediately set off on my way to the Bílé Labe valley. The path led up the hill over stones, or a pavement made of stones. Unfortunately, I was on the wrong side of the valley, so I could only look at the sun illuminating the other side and briskly continue up the valley.

When I reached the plateau. I couldn't help but wonder what I had the opportunity to listen to. There was a European Deer on each peak and they were honking at each other and calling for a fight. I stood there for about half an hour, waiting to see if I could see a deer.

Not far from where I was listening, a huge meadow called Bílá louka began. The place looked perfect in the fall colors.

I made it across the meadow to Luční bouda, which is the largest hut on the Krkonoše ridge. Unfortunately, I arrived early so I didn't have the chance to taste the beer from the local brewery.

That's why I continued to the Úpské rašeliniště (bog), through which I reached the Polish border again.

I was pretty briskly approaching the top of the day. Which should have been the highest mountain in the Czech Republic, Sněžka (1603 m).

But first I had to make my way through a grove of kneeling pines.

_M4A1094.jpg

At the foot of the mountain, freshen up a bit, look into the Obří důl.

_M4A1096.jpg

And finally head towards the top.

A konečně vyrazit směrem k vrcholu.

About half way up I took a little break to look around and take some photos.

It was quite busy at the top and mainly Polish was heard. Because the peak lies on the border between Poland and the Czech Republic. I was surprised that most of the visitors were from our northern neighbors, even though there is a cable car leading to the top from the Czech side.

_M4A1117.jpg

Originally I wanted to have something to eat, but when I saw the prices for which food is sold in the final station of the cable car. I only ended up with raspberry lemonade at three times the normal price. After consuming an overpriced lemonade, I went to the world of Water pipit. Sněžka is the only place in the Czech Republic where this bird is found and it is currently threatened by the number of tourists on the top of the mountain.

One last view of the peak from Růžová hora and then hooray down to Pec pod Sněžkou.

_M4A1125.jpg

I haven't been in the city for an awfully long time, so I was surprised by how the development has grown. And how Pec pod Sněžkou became a place for the wealthy.

Since this trip was only supposed to be one day and somewhere else entirely. So I thoroughly enjoyed it. After a long time I got to our highest mountains and especially enjoyed the diverse nature here. I overcame some elevation and after 15 years climbed to the highest peak in the Czech Republic.
