The Hurricane
I never saw the clouds roll in
I never heard the thunder's din
I was caught in a sudden rain
Soaked and rolling in deepest pain
Cold and shivering in my bones
Struck by the weather's sharp moans.
But then it passed
I was free at last
The sky broke bright and shining
My stars were all aligning
I breathed a sigh of relief
Sunk deep in my belief
That all was done
And I had won.
In blew a torrent
A howl so abhorrent
I clenched my fists
And stood hard in the mists
It was only the eye
That had hovered by
I was still quite in it
Calm only a minute
I didn't come through better
Just a few memories wetter.
My manhood is wrecked
I'm broken
Through the storm I trekked
But a better man hasn't awoken
Just a bitter tired soul
Who may never be whole
Inhabits this empty token.

This week's poem prompt from Blockchain Poets is "Behind the Storm".
I have yet to know if I'm through my storm. It seems like thunder is always in my life, somewhere, but without the benefit of lightning to give warning. Perhaps one day it will settle, but for now I will be content to take the hurricane's eye for as long as it lasts.
