Will ChatGPT Remain Free Forever? The Future of AI Dependence and Business Strategies

avatar
(Edited)

Would ChatGPT remain free forever? This is a question that has crossed my mind since I first became familiar with the most famous AI on Earth, ChatGPT. I have never encountered an AI that is as fast and brilliant in its responses as ChatGPT, and all of this is available for free access.

20230121_065715_0000.jpg

We all have heard that AI is as smart as it is given solutions to code problems, and it is smart enough to do a lot. In fact, I recently learned that some AI, such as ChatGPT, is capable of performing professional functions that most other sites charge a premium fee for.

Take Quillbot and Grammarly as examples. These websites are tools used by writers to correct grammatical errors, but they also require a premium fee for access to more advanced grammatical error corrections, making writing sound more creative. I had been wanting to pay for a premium subscription on Quillbot to see how it works, but since I heard that ChatGPT is so smart, I found that it can do many of the same things as Quillbot and Grammarly's premium features for free.

untitled.gif

This would be a major blow to websites like Quillbot and Grammarly, as they would see a significant reduction in subscribers when people realize they can get access to the same features using ChatGPT for free.

There is a lot that can be learned by using this AI bot, and it can be of great assistance in many jobs. From my point of view, with the solutions that this bot provides, I see a good business strategy here.

As more and more people access this bot and ask it a wide range of questions, the bot is getting smarter with every question it is asked. There will be an increase in dependence on ChatGPT, and as the world becomes more familiar with the capabilities of this AI and how it can make their jobs easier, I see a price tag coming into play for accessing some of the more advanced features.

untitled.gif

In reality, I do not expect ChatGPT to remain free forever. How will the developers who are constantly upgrading the system and servicing it get paid? How do they want to increase the productivity and the scale of the number of users the bot can give access to without having a way to generate income for itself?

untitled.gif

These questions concern me, and I do not want to be part of the group of people who become so addicted to this AI that they feel empty if they cannot afford to subscribe to access the features they need.

untitled.gif

But there is still so much to explore, and the truth is that even if a price tag is put in place, it will still be worth it because with what it can do, and if you know what you want to do, ChatGPT can be used to create another stream of income.

So, what do you think? Will ChatGPT remain free forever?

And this is my first time of knowing what ChatGPT is, I guess I'm already too dependent on myself and is not even as if I'm efficient, lol. That's why they say knowledge is power I guess.

This AL seems to be a really good one especially for the fact that it is free, but I don't think it will be free forever, I think the developers are only trying to build it's audience because they know what they can offer and I'm sure they have targets they want to meet, maybe for how versed ChatGPT is or something.

I will go and check it out, I feel left behind but not anymore Sha, hehe. Thank you for sharing.

Are you serious that you didn't know what ChatGPT is? I am quite surprised, you know. It is trending everywhere especially on Twitter.

ChatGPT is so brilliant that you can have a discussion with it more like you are discussing with a fellow human and it would be giving you immediate feedback.

I've seen it but I didn't really know what it meant and I did not bother finding out too 😏.

Wow, that's amazing! Hmm, they have a lot going on with this AL, hehe. Thank you so much for saying more, I will surely check it out.

I think it is been available for free to everyone for a while to improve model performance. Monetization may be required at some point to cover compute costs. Sam Altman once tweeted a similar tweet.

As expected. Thank you for sharing this tweet.

I feel if they allow the AI to display Ads, they would be able to make off some money to pay for the compute costs.

They would be able to make off money with ad display but this is an out-of-scope option. I think it is. It makes sense to have a usage fee of 3-5 dollars per month.

I’m guessing the best versions of chatbot will be premium and previous versions will be free but it’s very hard to say since there will surely be laws put in place around this technology and also people pushing to keep things open source.

Definitely, they would resevere the best feature of the AI chat for those who subscribe to premium. Let's see how thing would playout. BTW, How have you been doing brother?

This dude is just super brilliant 😂, the other day, we (in Neoxiancity) were asking it a lot of questions and the answers baffles me, I wonder how this bot get to know much... well, that's tech for you but I don't see it becoming free forever...not even possible. Once the developers get lots of Audience, surely it will be monetized before one can access it. Like the AI image, you need to subscribe to get some kind of image I think....the image in my discord profile is Ai though I wasn't the one that made it.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this!

So brilliant ✅👌❤️

Exactly. But there would be a way to allow free versions and premium versions. The free versions would have limitation to what kind of questions that can be asked. While the premium, a fee of whatever amount would be collected.

Wait the dude you are talking about, do you mean me?

Yes, there should be a way for both free and premium and it will fine that way...the users can always access it either with or without money but with limited questions for free version

Wait the dude you are talking about, do you mean me?

I mean the AI

Would ChatGPT remain free forever?

This is what GPT said.. tho, I think they'll Give some kind of competition to Google so wonder how they'll come up with premium.

Tho, what it offers is literally worth paying... Helping many in different ways whether academic purpose or programming etc this is one of finest A.I ever came in existence and future look bright.

You are absolutely right about this... The future ahead looks brights and I am sure there is more to expect in technology seeing that we are now in the World of AI..

I think it's possible if he's on Hive. DHF funding or continued support by upvotes could help solve the problem of paying programmers)

Hmm. I am not so sure. Could be very possible maybe with Hive value at a higher amount than it is now. The money they would incur from DHF would be a lot.

I think for now it will still be free because it still need to learn more from the user, such as the prompt that being used at certain region or area, most popular prompt or questions etc etc. with all of our in put data it can learn faster. But I think it will not be free forever. But I hope it will still give some access for free but maybe limited xDD

You know I've thought about different monetization streams they could employ (though they are already highly monetized and receiving support from institutional/organizational investors such as Microsoft, which keeps pouring in billions of dollars into the project). However, recently, I spotted a temporary "Pro" (premium) plan feature added to the bot. However, clicking on this takes you away to a Google form with which they took feedback on what should be the ideal pricing for ChatGPT, what isn't, how much I am willing to pay, and more of that. Clearly, a monetization plan is in the works.

As someone who pays 40USD yearly for Quillbot Premium, I would be willing to forego Quillbot premium to channel all resources into ChatGPT. I believe their monetization plan would make sense. They already make a lot of money from selling APIs and institutions, so users subscriptions, should just make a little fraction of their revenue.

The Pro plan they wanted to introduce would allow Pro users to enjoy the service free of disruptions such as network overload and more, it would also allow them (Pro users) to enjoy newer iterations of the bot earlier than others, and maybe, access to more advanced AI (I can only wonder how advanced they want to get from here).

I was expecting an Ad-based revenue, which could be a serious blow to Google's dominance, but it seems that's not part of their plan for now.

Google already feels threatened and should be releasing over 20 AI tools before the end of this year. It would be interesting to see how the AI battle goes.

It's a nice subject to explore, and the AI revolution is both exciting and scary at the same time.

Bro. If you are to use the premium service of ChatGPT now you would have to pay $40 per month. Omoor there is a huge difference in price. I think I would go back to my Quillbot and pay the $40 yearly premium service. Since everything I just need is to correct my grammatical Errors 😅😂.

I was thinking if there would be a premium plan at all for ChatGPT it would not be more than $20 per month and I may be willing to subscribe sometimes and then rent out my login to people around who may be interested.

Lol. 40 USD per month is massive oh! Abeg, make them no do oh! Whatever they do, they should at least retain the free tier, just as Quillbot does.

However, ChatGPT has the potential to be a do-it-all service, and with fair pricing, hmmm, plenty of services will have to adjust or lose customers.

I just wanted to remind you that if you get your premium plan on occasion, please remember to share it with me, until I come see "rent." This my oga shall. But when the time comes, I may be willing to rent too.

I would let you know if I subscribe to the premium of Quilbot but for now, I want to keep enjoying the free version.

Okay. Was thinking you were talking about ChatGPT premium when the premium version lands, because I already have Quillbot Premium

I think it's unrealistic to think that it will be free forever but there will always be a standard free version. The tech has to continue being open source. A possible monetization route is paying a fee to use the api when trying to build something on top of it.

Check this out: https://indianexpress.com/article/technology/chatgpt-users-spot-42-professional-plan-with-perks-8395865/

There is a professional plan and a free plan available.Sadly, I don’t think the free plan would be readily accessible when it is needed.

Naaaa
Business strategy here
They are doing us longer throat so that when they hit us with bill... everyone will be like.. yea, its still good because it offers a whole lot.

Just like quilbot and grammarly, it'll have free version and PRO version. However, I think the free version will be so basic that you'd want to pay to enjoy all the sweet benefit.

Also, I don't think it will be costly..

Obviously, has a more acceptable general vibe as compared to grammarly and quilbot that are mostly for scholars. Hence, I think it'll be cheaper.

But the babe is good

My hunch is it will be free for ever and they will find other wise of monetizing it. While keeping the eyeballs and making abnormal profits from it. Or run on more Funding while the buy into the future. There goal is long term

Looks like a price tag has been attached today to it. $42 a month. I just got the info but when I get home I would check it out from my system.

Don’t know why ChatGPT do not seem to work well from my phone.

ChatGPT right now is really struggling under the viral traffic load it's brought upon itself, they're scaling up and trying to find their footing, but yeah $42/month is a bit much imo.

I think there's plenty of opportunity that chatgpt could bring the to the table, but I might be waiting for GPT4 before thinking about paying for it.

Just checked the Pro plan pricing. It's 42 USD per month. No limits and also you can extend using the API. I find it reasonable. I think soon there will be more tools coming off using the pro plans. I am just scared though, now with no-code and chatGPT tools a lot of jobs are in thin ice. A lot of small business won't be hiring people if they can find such tools. What do you think?

I think the pricing just started today. I am surprised myself. But for me $42 is a lot for me to subscribe a month. I would probably would choose to subscribe if I have a job that pays a lot and having the help of ChatGPT would make easier and faster.

Yeah, chatGpt has been giving me chills for the last couple of days lol! I could not wait but write about it as well. I was literally doing things with it which I was not even dreaming about. I must say, things are going to get quite damn interesting. ChatGPT is just the beginning. More are to follow!

yeah that's true... there would be some posts that are been created by AI now... but I am sure the system would find a way to pick such posts out. And there would be a way to do that, that is by how humanly possible one can sound and express himself compared to how it is done by a bot.

I've n0tiCeD that emojis and WeiRd capitalization get the most likes here on HiVe. I've been using Grammarly and Text to Speech extensions to proofread all of my posts since the beginning so their isn't a single post of mine that doesn't have a dash of AI.
