Reading

Growing up, I wasn’t really one who enjoyed picking up a book to read. I’d rather go keep myself busy with something else or go take a nap instead of reading a book, no matter what book it is. I remember how I always thought that people who prefer reading a book rather than seeing a movie about the book were weird, well that was until I started reading.

I think it was sometime around 2017-2018 when I stumbled upon this site for writers, Nairaland. It was a site that had it all, from romance stories to horror down to even news updates. The site was literally a safe space for writers and they all went crazy there. I feel like a lot of movie directors probably got a few writers from the site because a lot of them had mad skills with even more crazy story imaginations.

After exploring the website and read a lot of stories, I even started a story of my own. I’ve forgotten what the title was but I guess that isn’t relevant seeing how I never completed the story.

Anyways, one particular writer on the site stuck out for me and I made sure to follow every of his works there and that was when one day he pasted a link to his whatsapp group and asked anyone interested to be friends with him to join, an offer I quickly accepted.

Prior to the time I joined the group, I was only reading Nigerian stories and novels but then when I joined the group, some of the members started to talk about their favorite writers and that was when I was introduced to great men like Dan Brown and John Grisham and that was when I realized the whole world of literature that I’ve been missing out on.

I began to read, making sure to download as much of their works as possible. I remember one story that made me stay indoors for hours until I was done with it was the Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie. The novel is a detective mystery story that I think now has a movie of its own.

Well among all of those writers, I think for now my favorite still remains Dan Brown because of his Robert Langdon series. I so much love that series that I even went ahead to see the movie and that was when I understood why people prefer reading the book than seeing the movie because the books always has more details compared to the movies and that was exactly what happened, so yeah, I guess I’m now part of the weird people.

Reading is good and it’s one thing I will never stop doing. Hopefully, I will get to write a book someday and probably finish it.

I am not a reader, I have never read up to a quarter page of a novel before. But I know most people prefer reading the book of a story than actually watching the movie.

The book the writer can easily explain the story and the mind would imagine the scene but the movies cannot get the same imagination our minds place it plus they might not have the enough resources to give us that same scene as our imaginations.

Yup.. Often times when a book is being made into a movie, they always omit some scenes that was written in the book hence making the movie kinda incomplete for us who have read the book.

Reading books back then especially educational books was my turn off.
Infact, if I couldn’t sleep, I just have to pick up my books and zoom zoom zoom 😂😂😂
