Money, Morals, and the Lost Generation

When you really think about it, you'd realize that the people of these generation are doing well for themselves when it comes to providing for themselves. A lot of them make a lot more than their parents did when they were their age, but they don't look at it that way, crime and corruption has made it seem like if you can't buy a classic car and carelessly spend money at the club then you ain't doing well for yourself.

It's sad because this mentality has forced a lot of these youths into doing things they shouldn't be doing, one of it being fraud, another being using diabolical means.

Earlier this morning, I saw something that was a bit shocking to me, because I didn't expect that person to do what I saw them doing, but I saw it. Now if you don't believe in spiritual stuff, then bear with me as here in Africa, we all still believe in that stuff.

As most of you know, I'm not a morning person, but earlier today, my phone rang. It was my friend's sister calling, she couldn't reach her brother on the phone so she had called me to help pass my phone over to him.

After I was done doing that, I couldn't go back to bed anymore so I came outside to sit, only to see one of the guys at my hostel, downstairs, slowing rotating his right hand (which was kinda clenched in a fist, indicating he had something in it) around his head. He did this about three times and then moved to the middle of the road to do the same thing.

I believe what he was doing was some sort of a ritual, for lack of a better word...but I couldn't see it till the end because the moment he moved to the middle of the road and was about rotating his hands round his head again, he looked up and I immediately hid myself. The next time I looked, he was gone.

Sadly, I don't need anyone to tell me what I saw to know what he was doing, and the saddest part of it all is that this is a kid that probably is at his early twenties, who probably haven't worked a day in his life to even see if he could make it working legitimately.. Rather, he chooses to go the other way where he feels he could get the riches a lot quicker.

A lot of people are currently like this guy and it keeps getting worse day by day.

It’s truly sad to see so many young people losing themselves because of a distorted view of what it means to "succeed in life." The pressure for quick wealth has pushed many down dangerous paths. We need to value real progress — the kind that comes through effort and integrity

And the sad thing is that it keeps getting worse everyday, because many of the kids keep looking up to those people who made it the wrong way, so they follow that path too.

The next time I looked, he was gone.

Wait wait. Gone means he disappeared or done suicide. I didn't get it.

We think our generation is doing well as people are making money compared to parents but does lifestyle improved? I doubt that lifestyle improved.

Gone, meaning he quickly rushed back inside.. Probably due to the fact that he caught a glimpse of me upstairs.
