Our Family Was Gifted a Dehydrator! Our First Run.

What A Marvelous Gift!

We visited our local congregation yesterday and one of our dear friends there said "I have you dehydrator in the car, if it's too big I can drop it off at your house."

I did a double-take. Dehydrator? Drop off? House? Huh?

She must have thought she talked this over with us before-hand, but I was caught totally off guard. She had a new dehydrator and she wanted her previous model to go to a good home. Turns out we were that good home!

We Got Started Right Away

Once it was dark, we made a quick trip to the grocery store to pick up some fruit. We bought strawberries, blueberries, bananas and a cantaloupe.

We cut up the cantaloupe first and laid it on the drying sheet.

We placed a carton of blueberries on next.

Girls cut up some bananas for the dehydrator.

The girls also cut up some strawberries.

Nine Trays of Dried Fruit!

This box holds a LOT of fruit. We're really exciteted to let this run over night to try out the dried fruit.

Fast forward to the next morning.... DRIED STRAWBERRIES!!!

Dried Cantaloupe slices!

The children very carefully peeled the dried fruit off the trays and into jars.

It's amazing how an entire tub of strawberries fit into such a small jar! They really shrink. And that's THREE bananas in that tiny container.

The melon was the best, though. Beautiful dried slices that taste delicious!

It's going to take a lot of dehydrating to fill lots of mason jars with fruit, but it works while we sleep! All we have to do is acquire fruit and cut them up. Then we have fruit that will last for months in our storage, if not years!

It was a total surprise, never expected to own one - they are several hundreds of dollars.

Is that an Excalibur?? I have looked at one for years but don't use the cheaper one we have now enough to justify. Berries and herbs are mostly what I do.

Yes, its an Excalibur. When I looked up reviews, they were very positive. It's the 9 tray model!

I had a friend dry persimmons all season.

They were so delicious.

The only "problem" is that they are eaten up pretty fast.
