Abandoned Heritage - Ontario Place

20210825_130328.jpg

Many people of the city may remember this once great amusement park. Having been built in 1971, and featuring the World's first IMAX screen inside of its' famous "CineSphere", Ontario Place fell into disarray following money and attendance woes in early 2011, and, eventually, was abandoned the year following, in 2012.

Having fond memories of this park, but stagnanted; I wanted to go back. To retrieve forgotten memories, you could call it, but with a sense of adventure. For then I could truly say that I came here and remembered it this time.

Please enjoy this 3 day journey around the park, as it simply was too large to complete in one day. I know many people don't enjoy reading a dictation of what they read, so I'll try to keep the summaries short :)

Having done the majority of exterior exploration the last day and interior the two days prior, I first stumbled upon Ontario Place early morning all three times.

Let the adventures begin!

20210825_121406.jpg

The old Budweiser stage just outside,

20210825_121902.jpg

Leading to the front gates,

20210825_122012.jpg

Wow.

20210825_122136.jpg

Continuing onward,

20210825_123710.jpg

the journey had just begun.

20210825_123530.jpg

Still having signs of SOME maintenance around this end,

20210825_123919.jpg

The emptiness surrounding,

20210825_124905.jpg

Became increasingly clear,

20210825_125325.jpg

The further and further,

20210825_130019.jpg

I traversed. Until I came across a memory. For many, most likely,

20210825_130328.jpg

A pleasant one.

20210825_130718.jpg

For even I myself,

20210825_131122.jpg

Started to have flashback,

20210825_130957.jpg

After flashback

20210819_115924.jpg

Of memory,

20210825_131529.jpg

Not gone astray...

20210825_131739.jpg

Now, entering deeper, this is where the fun really began.

20210825_132637.jpg

The crossing between the two silo's,

20210825_132642.jpg

And the entrance leading to one,

20210825_132715.jpg

Leading to a set of stairs, beautifully rusted,

20210825_132732.jpg

The view from above showed some of the remnants of the water slide.

20210825_133145.jpg

The top doorways,

20210819_113428.jpg

Leading to the largest silo

20210819_113408.jpg

Inside the largest silo; And facing back,

20210825_132950.jpg

20210825_133020.jpg

The view from one side after crossing between silos; the latter below; and stairs heading down;

20210825_133136.jpg

20210825_132840.jpg

20210825_132834.jpg

The view looking back up these oxidized stairs; Behind; And their crossing;

20210825_133646.jpg

20210825_133613.jpg

20210825_133618.jpg

Continuing around this area led to a surprise...

20210822_112018.jpg

20210822_111424.jpg

The slidetrack!

20210819_115423.jpg

Once on top, the controls for; The slide, down; And the track, behind!

20210822_111028.jpg

20210822_111342.jpg

20210822_111044.jpg

Heading back the same way, around the same bend and back up to the large silo - the crossing was taken and these stairs, back down;

20210819_113614.jpg

There was one last spot I wanted to check out if I still remembered where it was...

20210825_133736.jpg

I did.

20210825_133911.jpg

Pure beauty

20210825_133957.jpg

Was definitely enjoying this area.

20210822_094356(0).jpg

Controls;

20210822_094440.jpg

20210822_094547.jpg

Some beautiful lateral shots;

20210822_101723.jpg

20210822_094125.jpg

Line; And tracks;

20210822_095721.jpg

20210822_095439.jpg

Following these ramps;

20210822_095835.jpg

Led to this open area;

20210822_100437.jpg

Beside the main structure;

20210822_100603.jpg

Behind me, connecting to;

20210822_101244.jpg

And operated by, on my other side;

20210822_100203.jpg

Ultimately running this!

20210822_101135.jpg

The whole slide travels through this structure, which maintains amazing integrity and showcases its' beauty alongside nature.

20210822_095822.jpg

Loving the exit;

20210819_112927.jpg

20210819_113031.jpg

Like the waters of this slide at one point; running blue for so many children and families together;

20210819_115713.jpg

My memories were flooded back to me.

20210819_115826.jpg

And that, is an adventure I'd say is worth it, for anyone.

No security there? It doesn't look long abandoned. We would be chased away here.

They've been working on partial restoration but in the later pictures, almost a decade believe it or not. Some beautiful places here.

That place is huge! For being "abandoned" it is in surprisingly good shape. What a shame that it's no longer in use.

I used to live not far from it and wondered why I never heard of it anymore. Thank you for this.
