HEY With A Difference

Whosoever knows me well, knows I don't like people addressing me or calling my attention with the HEY word. And I don't like doing the same to others either except I want to be rude because to me it's impolite to call someone's attention by telling them Hey

Most people feel it's nothing to do that and some feel it's just like saying Hello but how in the world is Hey and Hello the same? I don't get.🤷🏻‍♀️
When I told someone how rude I think it is to say that to people especially if the receiver is older than the one saying it, the person thought I was just being ridiculous and to him, it really meant nothing to say hey.
He isn't the first person to react that way anyway.

I can even remember of recent when I reacted not so well when someone said hey to me, the person was like;
Why do Nigerians feel that telling someone HEY is an insult?
I was perplexed, and I was like, how does he know if it really isn't what it is or feels like?
I will say it over and over again that its rude to tell people Hey especially if they are older than you.
Forget what or how Nigerians think, forget what other countries like the Americans think or do.
You can say we shouldn't impose our beliefs on others and people's perspectives differ, I am not disputing that fact.

But guess what?, although I don't like it neither do I think it's proper but somehow I am always flabbergasted by this one person who made me not really dislike the word hey like I used to. It's not as if I am a party to it but his way of addressing the word and usage is just so spectacular.

HEY With A Difference

For days now, there is this one, but the handsome-looking young man who has been addressing and calling my attention with the hey word I dislike with all sincerity lol.
At first, I thought its because he didn't know my name, so I thought it was okay.

I walked past him one day and he said hey! to me since he didn't know what I was called, the only way he could get me to turn and atop was for him to say hey.
I looked back to be sure I wasn't the one he was trying to stop but surprisingly I was actually the one so I stopped and he said what he wanted to say and finally asked for my name, which I told him.

But after that day, he did the same thing again when we bumped into each other, again I thought, oh well, maybe he has forgotten my name, and yeah I was right, he did forget my name, I mean I see no reason why he shouldn't have :) unless he had something up his sleeve which he didn't I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️

This went on as many times as I can remember until it finally dawned on me that he isn't just saying hey because he might have forgotten my name or something but because maybe that's just how he loves to call my attention.
And for one reason I liked the way he calls my attention with the hey word.
He makes it sound more like a romantic request to get someone's attention than it is a command like most of our people here do.

To be very frank, I honestly think if the majority of people most especially my country people uses the right tone when seeking someone's attention or addressing or getting them with the hey word, I believe it wouldn't really soundrudee like I think it is.

How we present things matter a lot sometimes. The same thing or words we use with people that appear like an insult to them might not be the same for another depending on the manner of approach and usage.
We perceive things differently and we act upon what we know differently too.

We can't always feel the same way, think or reason the same way, act the same way or respond to things the same way.
How we all address matters is different.
But whatever may be the case, we should be mindful and careful how we use most words and let our speeches be of good conduct.

PS: I still don't like the hey word being thrown at me but if it's coming from the dark handsome dude, I wouldn't mind because his way of saying the hey word is quite romantic 🤭😊

Still your baby girl ;)

lol I really hope you see him again if it's a good thing :)

I don't know about in person, but online a lot of Aussies tend to start conversations with friends using hey. I don't think they have ever heard of it not being polite. I know I haven't until now :)

Lol. Yeah, it happens more online than it does offline I guess that's why it may not sound impolite to you.

Probably - I don't think it's a common greeting in person except maybe from across a road or something.
