Chennai Super Kings batted first after winning the toss, started the inning not very well, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway came to start the inning, the first wicket has gone very quickly just for 2 runs in last ball of the 1st over, Ruturaj Gaikwad dismissed for 2 runs in 6 balls, next batsman Moeen Ali came to bat handled the inning and played a very brilliant half-century partnership of 83 runs with Devon Conway, the second wicket has gone for 85 runs in 7.3 over, Devon Conway dimissed after scoring 16 runs in 14 balls, next batsman N Jagadeesan came to bat and he dismissed just for 1 run as third wicket in 8.4 over, the team score was 88 runs, next batsman Ambati Rayudu came to bat, and he also dismissed for 3 runs, as fourth wicket in 10.2 over, follwed by MS Dhoni came to bat handled and played a very brilliant half-cntury partnership of 51 the inning with Moeen Ali, the fifth wicket has gone for 146 runs in last ball of the 19th over, MS Dhoni dismissed after scoring 26 runs in 28 balls, next batsman Mitchell Santner came to bat, meanwhile the sixth wicket has also gone for 146 runs in 19.1 over, Moeen Ali dismissed after playing a very brilliant quick half-century inning of 93 runs with the help of 3 sixes and 13 boundaries in just 57 balls, followed by Simarjeet Singh came to bat and he remains unbeaten for 3 runs with Mitchell Santner, and also remains unbetaen for 1 run. In this way, Chennai Super Kings batted first scored 150 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs, and set a target of 151 runs for Rajasthan Royals.
