In the past, I felt emotionally attached to my country, in fact, I twice rejected the alternative of emigration because I did not want to start from scratch and at the same time, I felt that accepting them was betraying the nation where I was born.

That wrong decision, today weighs on me because although at this moment if I want to change country, I have encountered many problems to do so; the pandemic being the final touch.

For this reason, I needed to learn to identify that I had a very harmful emotional attachment and in order to overcome it, I had to be honest with myself and acknowledge it; With this recognition I made a positive step to overcome what I myself believe and did not let me advance.

An emotional attachment prevents us from being happy on our own because we determine that happiness and well-being is in the hands of other people or factors, a situation that is not the case. Happiness only depends on ourselves because if we leave it to external affairs, it can be very dangerous.

If you are a victim of emotional dependence or you have suspicions, I recommend you follow these steps; I am completely sure that they will be very useful to you; At the time, they helped me a lot and today I continue to put them into practice so that I do not get into the same thing again.

Increase your self esteem

When we have low self-esteem, we turn off people or things more because it is a way to feel safe and strong. Therefore, it is necessary to love us more and dedicate as much time as possible. We will recognize the virtues we have and forgive our past failures, recognizing that we did wrong and we can do things right.

Learn to be alone

In order to overcome emotional attachment, it is necessary that we learn to be with ourselves. I know that we constantly say that we do not like to be alone but, it is necessary to be because the space that we give ourselves when we isolate ourselves, helps us to think, analyze, study and reflect. Spending a few hours a day to be alone will fill us with pleasure and peace.

Be clear about your goals

When we are emotionally dependent on something or someone, we lose sight of our own personal life purposes or goals. This happens when we hold on to someone else's wishes and dreams and focus everything on joint plans. At all costs, these situations must be avoided; It is good that we have projects in common with someone, but it is also necessary to have personal ones. Our dreams and goals should never go into the background or worse, into oblivion.
