Your first photo must be a Japanese Maple - if not it looks a lot like mine! Glad the deer didn't get hurt. Back in the summer of 2009 in TN on the interstate between Memphis and Nashville (2 lanes each way) a deer decided to run across the road and unfortunately, we hit it in our big conversion! It just appeared in our lane out of the blue; hidden by an 18 wheeler. It was dusk and the speed limit was at least 60. I don't think the deer made it. We pulled off the road at the next exit and there was a lot of damage done to the headlight and right side of the front of the vehicle. It was very scary. I had been driving just 15 minutes before that. My husband had just switched and was driving at the time. I'm glad because I think I might have swerved the van and we might have hit another car... Also my mom and our 2 teenagers were all in our van! Anyway, that is my deer story. My daughter,15 at the time, was very upset about the deer. I told her it could have hit our windshield and come right thru it - I've heard stories about that!

Oh my! I'm glad you guys were okay! I understand being upset about the deer too. I'm that way as well.

Several years ago, I had a deer dart out from the other lane at night and the headlights from the oncoming car blinded me to him (big boy 10 point buck). I saw him look at me through the corner of the windshield just before contact, and you could almost see the 'oh sh__!' look on his face! I was going about 45-50 an he slid along the front after hitting the headlight and body slammed my driver's door, busting out the window and pushing the roof support into my seat, and then skimmed on down to fall behind me. I of course stopped and was a mess; had glass in my mouth; and a dead battery on my cell phone to boot. A guy following some cars behind, was the only one to stop and offer help. The life squad showed up and got the glass stuff taken care of. In the meantime, the gentleman who stopped allowed me to use his cell to call my husband. Also, the deer had been knocked apparently unconscious, as he got up and walked away. I don't know how badly he was hurt; I hoped he had survived whatever his injuries were. My husband arrived via my son driving him, and lol, he forgot his glasses, so I had to drive (it was November and cold) while he held the driver's door closed as it wouldn't latch, and I turned the heat on full blast as we were experiencing a bit of natural air conditioning which was not needed! They totaled the car, but I bought the salvage and had it repaired. Since that night, in the fall especially, I really want to drive in the center of the road in the dark, so I might miss the deer regardless of what side they come from!

Take care and thanks for sharing your deer story!

Wow, how scary for you! My goodness, you were so lucky not to be injured very badly! I don't blame you for driving differently now at night!

You should have seen the knee jerk reaction I had after that whenever I'd drive at night! I was afraid I'd end up seeing 'something' that really wasn't there and end up hurting me or someone else. I'm much, much more calm now, lol, but still diligently watch! Take care and have a good week!
