After the end of the civil war in the early 1970s, the Nigerian government set plans in motion to revive and develop the nation's economy, which had been devastated by the internal conflict. To make this possible, industrialisation was made a priority by the government, with huge investments and partnerships with investors made in essential industries. Consequently, the local automobile manufacturing industry became one of the sectors to benefit from this government initiative.

The industrial initiative soon began to yield dividends, as industries were revitalised and established in different parts of the country. Two automobile assembly plants were established during this period, with their impact on the nation's economy immensely felt, as they boosted local automobile manufacturing, employment opportunities for Nigerians, and revenue generation for the government. However, several years later, the operations of these industries began to decline, with one of them even becoming moribund.

As a result of this setback, the burgeoning local automobile manufacturing industry remained dormant for many years. This unfavourable situation persisted for a considerable period before a group of indigenous entrepreneurs began to contemplate ways to resuscitate the industry. This desire to revive local automobile production prompted some of these entrepreneurs to make substantial investments in the sector and establish automobile manufacturing industries in the country.

One such automobile industry established to achieve this objective was Nord Automobiles. Nord Automobiles is a Nigerian automotive manufacturer whose aim is to become a phenomenal automaker in sub-Saharan Africa. It was established in 2018 but officially launched its operations in 2020. It has its headquarters in Lagos State, with three of its assembly plants also situated in the state.

The vision to establish Nord Automobiles was conceived by its CEO, Mr. Oluwatobi Ajayi, who believed Nigeria should have an exceptional indigenous automobile manufacturer. His prior experience in the country's automobile industry equipped him with the necessary insight and information needed to turn his vision into reality. Despite the challenges that confronted him in his new venture, Mr. Ajayi, with the support of his business partners, eventually set up the company.

Consequently, the automaker has continued to gain traction among automobile enthusiasts after its formal launch in the country a few years ago. The automobile manufacturer not only assures potential customers of the durability and safety of its vehicles but also offers a wide range of models, including the Nord Tank, Nord Max, Nord Tusk, Nord Flit, Nord A3 Sedan, Nord A5 SUV, Nord A7 SUV, Nord Yarn, Nord Tripper, and Nord Lasgi, among many others.

The automaker first caught my attention when it set up its assembly plant at the University of Lagos. The news of the launch of this automobile facility greatly piqued the interest of the public, as it was the first of its kind to be established in the country. I recall how impressed and intrigued I felt when I first set my eyes on a Nord vehicle after viewing the news of its facility at the university on social media. 'This is a sturdy and beautifully designed vehicle,' I recall saying to myself after seeing the Nord Tank, the automaker's version of a pickup truck.

I was also in disbelief and reluctant to acknowledge the fact that the vehicle I had just seen was produced in Nigeria. In retrospect, I think this was because of how appealing and refined the Nord Tank looked. After reading about the automaker's sensational launch of its facility at the University of Lagos, I decided to do some research about the company. After learning about the establishment of the company, I was delighted to discover that it was set up and being managed by Nigerian youths.

This information made me realise that many Nigerian youths, despite the numerous challenges facing the country, are seeking ways to establish productive ventures that will stimulate commercial activities and also boost the local economy. This knowledge made me appreciate the work the entire team of Nord Automobiles is doing with their operations in the country.

I am excited about the recent developments in the Nigerian automobile manufacturing industry, as automakers like Nord Automobiles have proven that indigenous companies can develop the sector. I want to implore and encourage Nigerians to support this company and others like it by purchasing and promoting their products, as such actions will have a positive impact on our economy

Thanks for reading,
Have a splendid day folks.
