Coinage of Maria Theresa
I came back from vacation yesterday. One of my first joys was viewing my coins. I want to share that pleasure with you.
I have attempted to compile a complete series of her mints. From a tolar to a heller. Mainly from Hungarian coins. If I don't have Hungarian ones, I will use ones from other countries.
This set of coins was valid between 1754 and 1866:
Tolar 28,06 g, 833/1000 ... 120 kreutzer
1/2 Tolar (gulden) 14,03 g, 833/1000 ... 60 kreutzer

Maria Theresa was the first Habsburg monarch to use copper for coinage.

The Austrian currency 1754 - 1866 was common to the Habsburg states and Bavaria. Tomorrow I will look at my Bavarian Tolars. I definitely have some.

Serfdom still worked during M.Theresia's time. Part of the population did not need coins at all.
It was a little more complicated. Maria Theresa also ruled in the Austrian Netherlands and in northern Italy. Other monetary systems worked there.
Tough feat with all of the mints used... I shared a one Thaler dated 1780 but who knows when or where it was really minted. You certainly know much more about her coinage than I do. Very cool set!
