Hello there,

You need to see smiles on my face as I am penning this here. I was really hoping and wishing for Liverpool to get back to winning ways. I mean seven matches in all competition without a win was too bad and shameful for a team like Liverpool FC. I could no longer take the bantering from rival fans😀. Thanks goodness, the REDS prevailed against Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur by three goals to one on Thursday night football.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool FC: As it happened

Firstly, here is the starting lineup Jurgen Klopp adopted in the game; lots of changes.

Defenders: Alexander Arnold, Joel Matip, Jordan Henderson and Andrew Robertson

Midfielders: Gini Wijnaldum, Thiago Alcantara and James Milner

Attackers: Mohammed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane

For Henderson to be at the back line, it really means that all center backs are out because of injuries - Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Fabinho. Recently, it was announced that Matip sustained ankle injury from the Tottenham game. Should Jurgen Klopp get a center back before the transfer window is over? If you ask me, I'd say yes because there's a lot of frailties in the backline. Liverpool is conceding too many goals recently and it's frustrating for Allison Becker.

In the early minutes of the first half, Sadio Mane had an open chance to get Liverpool ahead in the game but he delivered a wayward finish. This led to an immediate counterattack of which Son converted nicely by kicking it past Allison. Luckily for Liverpool, the VAR claimed Son was offside so the goal was disallowed. You could then see the disappointment on the faces Jurgen Klopp, Mane and other LFC players fading away.

Tottenham Hotspur didn't give it much of a fight as their tactics was just being defensive and then keeping Harry Kane and Son for counter attacks. But this didn't work for them as Liverpool already knew their game plan. On the other hand, Liverpool were just displaying an entertaining game. They controlled the ball more, completed many passes but creating no clear chance for scoring. The attacking line in the first half wasn't sharp at all as they were too sluggish and sloppy, lacking quality on the ball.

Fortunately for the REDS, just before the first half break, Mane had a good run with the ball of the which he passed nicely to Roberto Firmino who did put Liverpool ahead of Hotspurs. So, it was a first half win for Liverpool. This left Mourinho aggravated that he had to leave the touchline before the half-time whistle.

Coming into the second half, Liverpool improved a great deal. A touch of sharpness was seen on the ball and the resultant effect was a second goal from Alexander Arnold. The goalkeeper, Lloris had punched Mane's shot to the legs of Alexander Arnold and we saw an unstoppable shot from the young lad. Sequel to this was a nice strike from Mo Salah which gave Liverpool three goals. However, in the midst of celebration, VAR recalled the referee to a handball by Roberto Firmino. Hence, the goal was disallowed.

As the game went on, Tottenham Hotspur came hard on Liverpool and they scored one goal following a solid strike metres away. The game became more interesting and there was an increased tension as Hotspurs threatened to make it a tie. The pressure then dropped as Sadio Mane gave the REDs a third goal.

Liverpool grabbed all three points to climb to the number four position. It was a much needed win and I'm excited they impressed. I hope they win their games even with the defensive injuries.
