This post is about my experience with trustwallet however most of it holds true for other wallets as well.

Do not be to complacent with crypto security

A lot of times metamask users have experienced hacks that have drained their wallets of valuable crypto.
That being said we as users would have to take adequate steps to secure our own crypto.

Get yourself a hardware wallet

At present this seems to be the best way to keep our crypto safe.
So buying a hardware wallet totally makes sense. You can check out some hardware wallete options here.

However a lot of people who are interested in crypto and blockchain projects prefer to use web based crypto wallets.

trivia: Do you know you can use a hardware wallet connected to a wallet on your computer ?

There is no denying the fact that these wallets are extremely useful and handy however if the browser session gets compromised. The cookie gets stolen or we inadvertently give access to a fraudulent website then we can lose our crypto for good.

The Trust wallet for browsers offers more security

Well this is true and one can switch to the trust wallet however in addition to this one can keep our main wallet as an offline wallet and keep only some amount into the trust or any other wallet so that in case the wallet gets compromised you do not lose all your crypto.

Added security in trustwallet browser extension

In case your browser based trust wallet gets compromised it automatically raises an alert.
The alert looks like this

The moment you see this message the best thing to do in your own interest is to move your funds to a new wallet.

This is the time to take immediate action

You have some time but only little to save your funds.
You could disconnect any site to which you have given wallet access.
However the best think to do is to move your fund to a new wallet.
So create a new wallet and move your funds

How to move your funds ?

There is a detailed guide for trustwallet users that can be obtained and followed from here

In the case of trust wallet the gas fee is refundable.

In case you have find that your wallet is compromised you can move your funds to the newly created wallet and the next thing that you can do is to claim a gas fee refund.

For trust wallet users the support team runs a program that refunds the cost of moving funds from a compromised trust wallet to a new one.

How to apply for a gas fee refund ?

Please keep only small amounts of crypt in your browser based wallets or any wallets that are exposed to the internet.
Stay safe and keep your crypto and financial information secure!

Hi @ifarmgirl-leo it was a new wallet that I had created a few days back and had started using for airdrops so funds got saved. However the experience was worth sharing so that others can get saved if such a things happens to them.
