Where three roads meet

Walking through the lonely path and crushing dry leaves was the only thing that could heal Debbie of the stress she was going through.

She loved the sound that came from the leaves as she stepped on them. She looked onward and there were lots of dry leaves covered on the path and all she wanted to do was go a little further still crushing them with her feet.

She didn't know when she got deep into the woods. She got lost in what she was doing because she didn't want her mind to remind her that she was sick and tired of staying in a house filled with smokes from tobacco every time from her mom and hearing her continuous nagging.

She stopped walking immediately she got to a junction where three roads met. There was no sign to know which way to go but a cactus which stood in the middle. She decided to explore the three roads as part of whiling away time so she started with the one at her left hand side.

The path was beautiful as she walked further into it, it was green and had beautiful blooming flowers, the breeze was cool and soothing, the trees had mouth watering fruits on them. Everything seemed perfect till the rain started.

First it started with a dark cloud, so dark that Debbie got scared and turned around to go back but the more she walked the farrer it was. She knew she hadn't walked so much into the left side of the road but how come it seems so far away.

Finally, she got to the junction where she saw the three roads but they were all gone just the cactus which stood there was left and then it dawned on her that something was wrong somewhere. How can a cactus grow in such land instead of in a desert where it belongs? All her mind told her was to run.

The moment she lifted a heel the rain came down, the breeze blew but she wasn't gonna stop, she ran as fast as her feet could take her, the wind became really strong that it started bringing down trees, her heart pounding, she ran faster looking back at short time intervals.

Trees were falling behind her and one was about to go down right in front of her but she was so fast to get past it before it fell. As she turned to look back again, she saw an old short man with a lamp in his hands chasing after her. He was so fast and almost close to her that she didn't look back anymore for fear of stumbling on something.

She increased her speed now she knew the enemy was right behind her. Light was seen ahead of her and the old man was pretty close at this time. He was just eight feet away Debbie was beginning to lose breath but she wasn't stopping till she got to the light and with a quick jump she got into the light and all she could hear from behind was "nooooooooo".

After dusting the dirt from her wet body, she looked up at the sky. It was so bright and there was no single sign of rain. The ground was dry and everything in it, she was the only one who had a drenched cloth on. She felt embarrassed as she walked home to get a change of clothes still thinking of what had happened earlier and the crazy adventure she just escaped.

She smiled a little and frowned again the moment she got into her house but thankfully her mom wasn't home to nag about her wet clothes. So she danced her way to her room with the image of how she jumped into the light in her head.

Wow this really took me on a ride! Was it all in her imagination? Or was there something more sinister and magical happening in those woods? Well Done and thank you for writing in Scholar and Scribe!
