Tales of the Urban Explorer: Return to the Dolls House
I rarely visit a location more than once unless there is good reason. My first encounter with ‘The Dolls House’, was in January 2019, during a visit with @mender1 (who no longer explores).
We failed to get inside but found a myriad of treats within the grounds, with sheds, caravans, and a ton to look through.
Fast forward to August 2020 and we found the ground devoid of anything. Someone has spent considerable time removing all the junk (and there was a lot).
I now have something captured that no longer exists which is one of the rewarding aspects of Urban Exploration.
So if the grounds are empty (not that I want to rummage again), the house had better be accessible this time.
We were lucky and this was the case. If you look closely you can probably figure out where we got in. Since my visit, that particular access point is no longer, not that I will ever publicly share a time-capsule.
‘The Dolls House’ has several names. ‘The Murder House’ is one, and ‘The Three Sisters House’ another. I can’t speak for the last one, but the middle is relevant as there was a mention on the internet that it was the host of a past murder.
Try as I might, I can’t find any evidence of this and so will not name it so, despite the ‘RedRum’ and blood markings on the wallpaper.
It might well be red paint or some other substance; I don't want to sensationalise what I see and as I am not vampirish whatsoever, I passed on giving it the taste test.
It initially looked very bare but some rooms were host to better goodies than others.
Like some other time-capsules, I felt these were somehow lined up for the aspiring photographer.
Still, anything that costs 7s 6d is pre-decimalisation and OLD. The downstairs interest was limited to one room with the old stuff and another room next to the kitchen.
The old clothes rail was quaint, and twisting the lever set it in motion. It still worked and well!
Miele washing machines are not cheap. It didn’t look that old or beat up.
Avoiding the rotting pungent pigeon in the kitchen we made toward the stairs in search of more stimulation.
Someone has been having fun with the china on the stairs.
It was much more interesting up there; the Burberry items were, unfortunately… fake.
Scattered amongst all the clothes were lots of brochures, some very ‘fifties’ though I could not be sure in many cases.
Just look at that pattern, the height of fashion.
The Recipe for a Tea Salad did have a date, 1957. Way before even I was born.
There was more to this place than meets the eye and I took some time looking through the junk.
My late grandfather smoked these things, I remember they had no tips.
This gives me a clue on who lived here, a headteacher. But from what period?
The headers look distinctively old; this is no 90’s literature.
This pensive writing is a little hard to read but it's about children. Was it written by the headteacher?
The cleanest crapper I have ever seen in a DERP. Even @grindle may succumb to taking a shit in this one.
Here’s some literature from 1952 depicting scenes from the American Civil War of 1862. I could have stayed here for hours if we didn’t have a schedule.
There were no signs of the creepy dolls in 'The Dolls House', which is where the name was derived.
No doubt some bastard has nicked them long ago; a worthy time-capsule but for how long?
If the extensive garden has been cleared out, is the house next to go?

Working in a bookstore where we have also rare old books, I'm so intrigued by the pics you took of the old books there. To be honest, also thinking about the different names of this buildings, I'm intrigued by all the stories inside of the wall ^_^
Other explorer's generally come up with these names. I tend to use the most common one I can find. I always love old books and literature, especially from the 50's and older. They are so distinctive with the over-the-top images telling us things like... smoking is good for us hehe..
Thanks for continuing to make Hive awesome.
It looks like that house still has some decent bones to it. If someone can get past the whole possible murder thing it would be a nice place to renovate. That kitchen seemed small for he size of the house, I'd be knocking out some walls! Awesome find! You should do some Facebook stalking on some of the names in the gradebook. Unless they are all petty common of course.
It was in decent condition this one, no dripping water or holes in the roof. It does make a change :) Yeah, the kitchen was smaller than mine.. and I live in a Bungalow.

I absolutely love your posts. Fantastic as always.
Why thanks! I sometimes think I am writing to an invisible audience.
I hear ya, it's hard sometimes to tell who's really reading and who's just following trails - but I'll be honest, your content is a constant source of inspiration. I often use your urban exploration photos to help me design levels and challenges for tabletop gaming. They're particularly great for use when I'm trying to make zombie-apocalypse encounters for Dead Reign. So thank you again, and please keep it up!
That’s bloody lovely and the big looks remarkably clean!
Yes that place needs a good while just rummaging
Love it
You would love it, the floor was full of old leaflets upstairs. Hope they are still there. The last report I saw.. it looked more bare than when we visited.
Yeah that’s how it goes alas. Always good to get in early
Thank you for this lovely guided tour through this house! That was a pretty cool insight.
I have seen better ones, but love finding all this old stuff from decades gone by.
So the books all seem old, but there are newer appliances. Almost seems like someone dressed the place to confuse you. At least it's not another shit crack house. Looks like it could even be made liveable again.
Yes, like I mentioned.. it seems a little set up. The Axe House was the worst for that, talk about pre-set displays! All the leaflets etc.., were quite genuine though. People hoard stuff for decades.
When we moved into wife's grandmother's house (she had died a while before) it was like some of your time capsules. We kept some interesting stuff. There were newspapers going back to the war and coronation.

That was a fun scroll through. Lockdown has to be driving you crazy as you can't get out and hit these types of locations without double risk. .. Well, I guess you could say you were taking exercise and got lost. Lol. Cool post, really enjoyed that.
Old fire place, windows possible value, sad when run down to this mere shell of earlier grandeur.
Repairing big old establishments very expensive, nice explore with old books found always leaves one wondering what happened here.
