“Hikers Only!“ 😇 My Actifit Report Card: May 23 2025

Hikers Only!☺️
With yesterday’s close encounter with Mr Bear, today Silvertop was looking for a trail that had more local foot traffic!……….
Safety in numbers my friends!😇
The Gold mine trail is always busy, the parking lot at the trailhead is usually almost always full!😮
That’s where Silvertop was going hiking today!👍
I pulled into the parking lot………
No one was here, I had the trailhead parking lot all to myself Lol!😇
Once again Silvertop was hiking all alone, in Bear territory, just in a different spot on the same Sumas Mountain!🙄
I figured I would head towards the Gold mine safe, it has been a while since I climbed down the steep hill that leads to the fast moving creek below.
Maybe I can take a video …………….
That’s when I heard voices!😮
It sounded like two men hiking up from the trailhead.
The three of us merged at a very narrow section of trail.
I was going back down, and these two men were coming towards me crossing a small creek……………
They didn’t see me yet, so I figured I would alert them that I was almost on top of them, and about to pass them!😇
“Hello….. nice day for a hike guys!”
The man on the left, was startled, and actually flinched!😳
He had knee high waders, a shovel stuck out of his backpack, along with a three foot section of white PVC plastic pipe!🤔
“We’re looking for the headwaters of this creek, do you know if the water runs harder up ahead, we haven’t ever been here before”…….
I started to explain the trail layout to the first man, when suddenly the second man looked over at me and said…………..
“Is that you Silvertop?”☺️
It was Chris, an avid Gold panner, and a previous coworker of Liz’s at the Walmart Optical shop from years ago!
“Chris I didn’t realize it was you!”😊
What an odd place to run into someone you knew from years ago, on a secluded hiking trail!
We chatted for a bit, and Chris wants to get together for a Starbucks to catch up!
Chris is very protective of his Gold panning locations, so paparazzi Silvertop reluctantly refrained from snapping photos!☺️
They were carrying quite the collection of Gold Panning equipment, I didn’t have the heart to tell them there isn’t any Gold on this side of Sumas Mountain…….😇
“ Liz, maybe they just might find some Gold you never know!”🥰
Hmmm…………🤔
Even without finding any Gold, they were going to enjoy a nice hike today………Silvertop was as well!🤗
