My friend @seattlea has been harvesting some very good sized home grown Tomatoes recently!👍
A bit further North, homegrown Tomatoes are difficult to find, but delicious sweet Corn is sold everywhere Lol!☺️
Silvertop grew up in the Midwest, in Cincinnati……….
Cincy, is known for some of the best “Silver queen” white corn in the country, it is extremely sweet and delicious !
Teenage Silvertop and several of his childhood friends, would carefully climb over, or through, the neighboring farmers barb wire fence, for large handfuls of ears of corn!😇
Extremely happy with ourselves, we would hurry back to my buddies home, to place our treasure in a large pot of boiling water!😊
That’s when my friends Mom walked into her kitchen to see what we were up to……….😇
Plates were already covered with melted very low calorie butter, and enough salt to preserve meat for the winter, when my friends Mom spoke up………
“Boy’s………. where did you get all that Corn?”🤔
I let my buddy speak up, after all she was HIS’S Mom!😮
“From the neighbors Corn field Mom!”😀
“You Boys do know that is “Cow Corn”!🙄
No one seemed to mind, for three hungry teenage boys it was delicious!🤗
“What’s for dinner tonight Liz, I sure have a craving for Corn!”😍

I suppose when you're a teenager with a hollow leg, corn is corn.
Now, for those of us with more discriminating taste........well there's nothing like Silver Queen corn! Too bad I've not found any here. We might need to take a trip back east dear!
I think the closest we have found to silver queen corn, was Olathe sweet corn from Colorado Liz…….

Produce at my local Farmer's markets are more expensive but I have to support them because I know my oligarchy of Chain grocers have far too much price control power over our local farmers. Our Canadian government's business model is to make monopolies, or near monopolies too powerful.
How expensive is corn up in Canada?
Down here it’s running two for a dollar at the moment, I remember when we first moved here it was 10 for a dollar!👍😊

That moment when your buddy’s mom revealed it was cow corn made me laugh, because hunger can make anything taste gourmet. Silver Queen from Cincy is on my list now, you made it sound crazy sweet. Up here I’m seeing more corn stands too, while tomatoes stay picky, so I’m leaning into the boil-and-butter plan tonight. Do you ever grill the ears with a bit of chili and lime, or is boiling still your go-to?
I’ve been known to wrap the ears in foil and grill them very delicious as well, my friend!👍😊
Ohh… yes, if you find Silver Queen Corn give it a try! It has smaller all white kernels that are sweet and so delicious!
Foil-wrapped on the grill is tough to beat. I like tucking a pat of butter and a pinch of chili inside the foil, then a bit of lime after. Silver Queen sounds like sweet little pearls, now I’ve gotta hunt some down. Do you pre-soak the ears or just wrap and fire away?
