Passing it forward!😊
In just a blink of an eye, improvements man has made to the forest, roads, trails, and structures, disappear without a trace…….😮
I “Tip” my hat…… literally,
to the Lautenbach family, for the hard work they have done to keep this Historic network of trails open to the public!🤗
The “Gold Mine Trail” is more than just a hike to the old mine.
Starting at the trailhead, on any given day, you will see the road in front of the Lautenbachs packed with cars!☺️
Once you hike uphill past the open field, you are hiking on the old historic wagon road.
You can search online for maps, and still get lost!😳
Side trail, after side trail, can take you to Mountain streams, several mines, or onward straight uphill to the summit and beyond!😅
Originally the trail head down at the road was located on private property, this was the only access to the public lands above………..
The land owners didn’t want and more foot traffic on their land and closed the trail head!😳
Trails that had been used for over 130 years were shut down………..
The Lautenbachs opened up their property to the public, free of charge, for all to enjoy!🤗
They regularly organize work parties to maintain and improve the trails, and
a “Tip” box is located near the start of the trail, to generate cash…….
Unfortunately, you still see some vandalizing on these trails, like the high caliber bullet hole in the gold mine safe, steel plate door!
So very sad……..😮
With more people hiking, hopefully you won’t see much of this anymore!😇
Yesterday we were met at the trailhead by an elderly lady……
She was one of the Lautenbachs….
“Is this your first time hiking here?” She asked………..
“We have been here many times, it’s a wonderful hike!”😊
“Enjoy, and come back again guys, the trails are always open!🤗
