He comenzado a ver películas que tengan posiciones altas en rankings de diversas webs de cine. En esta ocasión me tope con este título, que es un gran representante del cine negro de los 40’s. Se estrenó en 1944, siendo su director Billy Wilder.

I have started to watch movies that have high positions in the rankings of different movie websites. On this occasion I came across this title, which is a great representative of the film noir of the 40's. It was released in 1944, being its director Billy Wilder.

Sinopsis: Walter Neff es un vendedor de seguros que en busca de un pago de un cliente, se encuentra con su esposa Phyllis. Poco a poco, ellos comenzaran a tramar el asesinato del esposo para cobrar un seguro cuantioso.

Synopsis: Walter Neff is an insurance salesman who, in search of a payment from a client, meets his wife Phyllis. Gradually, they begin to plot the murder of her husband to collect a large insurance.

Al inicio de la película, se muestra un indicio claro del posible final, pero eso no le quita nada de fuerza a la misma. Una historia que mezcla un caso policial, amoríos, un jefe astuto y más elementos, que la hacen entretenida y dinámica. Tiene toques de comedia, pero lo que más llega a sentirse, es su lado siniestro.

At the beginning of the film, there is a clear hint of the possible ending, but that does not detract from the strength of the film. A story that mixes a police case, love affairs, a cunning boss and more elements that make it entertaining and dynamic. It has touches of comedy, but what you feel the most is its sinister side.

Hasta cierto punto puede ser un tanto enrevesado, en especial cuando se habla de tecnicismos, pero no se puede negar que es atrapante de inicio a fin.

To some extent it can be a bit convoluted, especially when talking about technicalities, but there is no denying that it is gripping from start to finish.

El jefe de Walter, Barton Keyes, es interpretado por Edward G. Robinson; haciendo un excepcional trabajo. Es el personaje que más me gustó ver en pantalla. Ingeniosa su metáfora del enano interior. El resto del reparto igual hace un buen trabajo.

Walter's boss, Barton Keyes, is played by Edward G. Robinson; doing an exceptional job. He is the character I most enjoyed seeing on screen. His metaphor of the inner dwarf is ingenious. The rest of the cast does an equally good job.

Al no usar escenarios particulares o grandes, la calidad de la producción aún se sostiene. La música trata de acompañar las escenas, creando el ambiente siniestro o de zozobra.

By not using particular or large sets, the production quality still holds up. The music tries to accompany the scenes, creating the sinister or eerie mood.

Grandiosa película. Si bien no es una película familiar, más bien lo contrario. Es totalmente recomendable para cualquier persona.

Great movie. While it is not a family film, quite the opposite. It is totally recommendable for anyone.
