Reseña: El intermediario (John Grisham) // Review: The Broker (John Grisham)

Ya llevaba tiempo sin acabar un libro. En los últimos años, cada vez se me hace más complicado darle tiempo a la lectura; aun así, espero cambiar ese rumbo en las semanas venideras. Esta es mi primera entrada en esta comunidad. El libro fue publicado el 2005.

It's been a while since I've finished a book. In recent years, it has become increasingly difficult for me to make time for reading; however, I hope to change that course in the coming weeks. This is my first entry in this community. The book was published in 2005.

Sinopsis: John Grisham acaba de ser indultado por el presidente. Luego de pasar 6 años en la cárcel, acaba siendo transportado a otro país donde deberá esconderse debido a un mal negocio que tuvo en el pasado, y lo llevó a este punto. A su vez, varias agencias de inteligencia del mundo intentan dar con él.

Synopsis: John Grisham has just been pardoned by the president. After spending 6 years in prison, he ends up being transported to another country where he must go into hiding because of a bad business deal he had in the past, and it brought him to this point. At the same time, several intelligence agencies around the world try to find him.

Es un thriller que mezcla agencias de inteligencia, secretos confidenciales, esconderse, y un poco de apreciación de algunas ciudades italianas. He incluso un toque de romance. El protagonista tendrá que esconderse de la posible vigilancia de enemigos pasados, tratando de llegar a una solución de su situación.

It's a thriller that mixes intelligence agencies, confidential secrets, hiding, and a little appreciation of some Italian cities. There is even a touch of romance. The protagonist will have to hide from the possible surveillance of past enemies, trying to reach a solution to his situation.

El ritmo me parece bueno, aunque llega a cierto punto donde las cosas que pasan son poco, hasta que vuelve a aumentar de nuevo. Creo que le faltó una mayor cantidad de personajes que interactúen con John, para un mejor dinamismo. Una de las cosas que me gusta, es ver que muchas cosas escritas hacen parecer el mundo más aterrador de lo que es, aunque bastante de lo mismo debe ser ficción.

The pace seems good to me, although it reaches a certain point where things happening are little, until it picks up again. I think it lacked a greater amount of characters interacting with John, for a better dynamism. One of the things I like, is to see a lot of things written to make the world seem scarier than it is, although quite a bit of it must be fiction.

La novela fue escrita en el 2005, así que muchos de los dispositivos, narrados como novedosos ya no lo son tanto. Está escrito en capítulos cortos, así que parar fácil no supone un problema.

The novel was written in 2005, so many of the devices, narrated as novel, are no longer so novel. It is written in short chapters, so stopping easy is not a problem.

En general, es entretenido de leer, y como dije, me enganchó lo suficiente para terminar una sequía de libros leídos. Recomendable.

Overall, it is entertaining to read, and as I said, it hooked me enough to end a drought of books read. Recommended.
