Why wait when you can do it now

I was seeing The Mentalist series today and there was this episode where agent Lisbon and a bunch of scientist had thought they were going to die because they had been exposed to this deadly virus, so everyone picked up their phone to call their love ones, everyone except Patrick Jane of course because he was the only one who knew that the deadly virus wasn't exposed like they all thought.

Basically, what that episode did for me was to confirm the saying "you don't know what you have until you lose it" and what it proves is that we all take a lot of things for granted, until we find ourselves in a position where we could potentially lose that thing and that's when we start to see the importance of that thing.

Of course this isn't something new to any of us. The saying is a very popular one and what's even more unique about it is that it applies to everything in life, from the importance of our health, relationship with people, down to some minor things like gadgets we have at home. I remember there used to be a time where I had thought the phone I was using at the time was useless and had wanted a new one but couldn't afford it.

I always used that phone like it was trash until the day it went off and refused to come on. After staying for two days without a phone of my own, I started to miss my old phone and wish I still had it.

It's a crazy thing but it doesn't always have to be like that. My dad will always tell me to be satisfied with whatever I have until I get a new one, because not being satisfied might push you into doing something you don't want to do. So be satisfied and take care of the one you have while working towards getting the one you want.

And the reason why I had referenced the The Mentalist series at the beginning of this post was because at some point in that episode, Patrick Jane, the one who made them believe that the virus was going to kill them had told agent Lisbon that he had done it for two reasons, the first being to solve the murder case they both were investigating and the second was for her to appreciate life because that's just how things are. He had to make her believe she was about to lose it to appreciate it.

Now if I asked you when was the last time you appreciated the fact (or thanked God) that you're alive, it most likely would be when something terrible happened to you or someone you know, something that almost claimed their life.

So yeah, it doesn't have to be this way but sadly it is what it is. I guess what I'm just trying to say is that we should learn to appreciate people and things when the going is good and not only when we're about to lose them.

I thanked God some hours ago for being able to wake up from sleep and for being healthy.
I think life time is unknown to us and we can't determine it. So we should not worry too much thinking about it. We should try to enjoy each moment till we are alive.

You're correct and I was going to include that in the post but it skipped my mind. I was going to say that maybe the reason we're not always appreciating life is because we're not constantly thinking about how easy it is for us to lose that life, which is actually a good thing..

Because constantly thinking that you might lose your life anytime soon is not a way to live ones life.
