We’ve Come a Long Way

We’re always so focused on our problems that we forget to appreciate how far we’ve come. The truth is, many of us would take things a lot more easier on ourselves if we took a moment to look back at how bad things were in the past and how we never thought we were going to get to where we are now.

About thirty minutes ago, I was having some sort of flashbacks conservation with my friends which prompted me to make this post tonight. About two years ago during my year as a freshman in school, things wasn’t so funny for me back then. I remember coming back home for the holidays and the looks on my mom’s face was nothing but pity.

She could tell that I’ve had it rough. According to her, I looked so lean and anyone could tell I haven’t really been eating and mom always knew I had a huge appetite, so if I wasn’t eating it wasn’t because I wasn’t hungry but because I had nothing to eat.

Dad was definitely trying his best but there was a huge difference between eating at home and eating in school. Because at home, you don’t pay for the food, your parents do so you eat as much as you want to but when you’re in school, you have to be careful about how you spend your pocket money to avoid going broke before the next payday, Lol. So that automatically meant me not eating like I used to.

Looking back at all of that now from where I am, all I can say is that I’m really grateful for how far I’ve come because it’s way better than it’s used to be. I honestly can’t remember the last time I went to bed on an empty stomach and I’m so grateful to God and everyone who has made this possible.

Truly, tough times never last, we just have to endure and before we know it, we’re looking back at it and laughing our asses out.
