Water Should be Free
Earlier today, I was seated outside just trying to relax because I had earlier gone to play football, and all of my bones were killing me. So I was trying to relax when I saw a lady down the street making payment for a bottle of water that she had in her hand.
When I saw that, I immediately started to think about how crazy it is that we literally have to pay for water. Hear me out; personally, I feel things like water, food, and healthcare should be free all over the world. People shouldn't have to pay for things that are needed to keep them alive, especially not something that is vital for our day-to-day, like water.
I seriously don't know how to explain it, but I do think it's crazy that we do have to pay for things like that, most especially water, because what happens when someone is thirsty but has no money to buy water for themselves? What happens to them?
No one should die of taste. Unfortunately, almost nothing is free in the world we live in, but it sincerely shouldn't be that way. There should be things that are vital to us to stay alive that should be free and bountiful in a way where people don't even know the value of those things until one or two few occasions where they find themselves in a position where that thing is unavailable to them.
Almost like the air we breathe in. Imagine if we had to pay to breathe; to me that's almost what paying for water feels like. Yes, I know that there are people in the hospital who pay for oxygen and all that, but we don't get to pay for it unless we're ill. That is the way things that are this vital should be.
It should be free entirely, in any situation at all, but if that can't happen, then it should be free unless we find ourselves in a situation (like in the hospital) where a special kind of water is needed to help the patient survive; then that can be sold.
I know all of this might sound crazy to the majority of you guys, and I don't think it's because what I'm saying is crazy, but the words I'm using to describe it are because I'm finding it a bit difficult to articulate what I'm thinking. But trust me when I say that it all makes sense in my head.
Water shouldn't be sold; it should be free because we don't have a choice but to drink water, just like you don't have a choice but to breathe in air.
Don't you guys have free water sources? like tube well?
We do have free water sources, just that none of them are clean enough for you to drink directly from it.. You will have to purify it someway, most probably by boiling it.
But then when you do that, you will need to put it in the fridge for it to get cold, which brings us to problem number two, lack of constant electricity to power your fridge.
So rather than go through all of that processes, most people prefer to just directly buy clean drinking water.
Ah got it, the situation is somewhere close in Dhaka. Through the country, mostly in the villages, they have deep tube wells as a source of clean water. But in Dhaka and other cities, the water level is low, need to rely on WASA supplied water and other submersible powered water which has same problem that you mentioned. Water > boil > and put in the refrigerator. Or have purifying devices like from kent and pureit. We don't need to purchase but yeah, there are many who dont wanna go through the hassle and just buy it.
Fortunately, you get free waters in the normal restaurants that servs you foods, so the problem isnt scarce here but might be soon.
