Try it First

I used to have this friend who will always tell me that I shouldn't hate something that I haven't tried yet. Now one would think that this guy was just trying to push me to the other side because when he first made that quote, we both were talking about people who smoke weed and how I never would try such a thing because I don't like it.

And that was when he dropped his famous quote, not because he wanted me to become a smoker, but because he felt that he was saying what was right and logical and for some few seconds, I had thought the same thing too.

"It's not fair hating something I never even tried" I remember thinking to myself but then I knew there was no way I was going to try smoking weed because it just was never going to happen. If I had a list of things I wouldn't do in this lifetime or the next, smoking weed would be among the top things.

Well, we finally got over that conversation and like I said, he wasn't trying to force me into anything I didn't want to do, he simply was just telling me what he believed and that was why when we started talking about alcohol some few days later, he had dropped the same quote again and I had said "You know what, fuck it.. I'm giving it a try".

So we all went to the store and got some alcohol. This wasn't my first time tasting alcohol but it definitely was the first time I was taking more than three sips. I usually would take a few sip and that was it, but on that day, I decided I needed to get drunk for the first time in my life and I did it.

I remember feeling good and superfly when I got drunk and how amazing that feeling was. It was like I suddenly wasn't scared of anything or anybody. If I had seen all of the girls I was crushing on that day, I probably would have asked all of them out and then regret it in the morning.

But you see, this was my first time getting drunk so it was a whole new experience for me. I always see people misbehave and stumble all over the place when they're drunk and always thought that was how I was going to behave but surprisingly I was cool. I knew what I was doing, the people I was with and how happy I was, because I was very happy. Everything everyone said that day suddenly became funny to me and it all felt like I was living the best time of my life.

No wonder they say "Drink and forget your sorrows".

Anyways I enjoyed the feeling and wanted to do it again and I did. And before I knew it, I started craving for it. Not the bitter alcoholic taste, but the way it made me feel, I wanted more of that. But luckily for me, I was smart enough to know when to stop because I knew for a fact this is how addiction starts, so I said nope, I'm not doing it anymore and I didn't.

Then I started to think about my friend's quote and how foolish it was. You don’t have to try everything before you know what's good for you and what isn't. Because I know armed robbery isn't a good thing and I didn't have to try it first to be so certain.

Also, there are some things that we shouldn't really try out or taste in the first place because they might feel so good that we might end up not being able to stop doing it. So if you know that you don't want to do something, there's absolutely no reason for you to try it first.

On seeing your title I felt it the same as your friend had spoken to you as if you are referring me to try first and then make the judgment call, I was also getting prepared with the counterattacks you had just mentioned. Alas! You already spoke what I wanted to.

Some things can be tried first to get the experience but when enough valid data is available then there is no need for further experiments. When I know it's a bottle of poison used to kill someone then there is no way that I will be tasting myself to check if it works for real or not. If your friend was mine then I would have surely asked him to try poison to be sure if it really works or not, trap him with his own shitty logic, hehehe joking.

When you knew that too much consumption of Alcohol might get you drunk, you shouldn't have gone for it. Well, it's good to see you have good control over yourself to skip it and get away from that addiction.

😂😂 This made me laugh because I just imagined you getting ready to devour me with your response and then you realized we're on the same side and probably went like "You're lucky Prayzz" 😂😂😂

Yeah this is another good example and I'm kind of sad I never said this to him because that would have shut him up.

Yeah I know. Definitely one of the reason why I no longer succumb to peer pressure anymore.. But like you said, good thing I stopped on time and never got addicted to it.

Yeah, not everyone can have that control over themselves, you have that, nice.

Hello prayzz, 😂😂😂, you was drunk? And you loved the feeling.....oh my goodness 🤭😂... well, I am glad you have control over it after the whole experience. Now tell me, will you go again? Lolz

There are some things I don't have to try first before knowing the implications and again, to some an extent I don't allow peer pressure to influence me much. We are all humans and we can do things we never planned to do but then, with wisdom and determination, we can control some cravings 😂

Alcohol in this case is not bad but getting drunk can lead someone in doing things ordinarily he wouldn't do with his clear eyes, though not everyone!

Now tell me, will you go again?

I highly doubt it 😂. The feeling of being drunk might be cool and all but the hangover after all of it is something else, almost like punishment for drinking and it's something I'm not a fan of.

Trying new things is always good, but some people just take it to extreme levels.

You can overdo almost anything, it doesn't have to be drugs and alcohol alone; eating too much, working for too long and burning yourself out, even workouts that last a few hours or lifting too heavy. And what you said is also correct...

You don’t have to try everything before you know what's good for you and what isn't.

Some of it just requires common sense and a bit of control to understand if it's really beneficial for you, or if it is harmful for you and your lifestyle, your future.

I've been around a few of my friends who did a fair amount of drugs and alcohol; one day after the other, sometimes weekly, but I only had the guts to just get a puff or maybe a sip or two, other than that I just indulged in all of it passively, which didn't inflict much damage I'd say.

Thing is, I knew what I wanted, how I wanted to live my life and what I wanted to put in my body. So, the temptation of being "cool" and popular, a part of "the gang" was never an option; I'd rather go solo than try the things I don't understand and don't need to understand.

Everything you've said is absolutely right brother. At the end of the day, it all boils down to common sense and what you want for yourself. No one should allow themselves to be pressured by others into doing something they don't want to do.
