Too Much Cruise

Sometimes we don't realize that certain things we do tend to have consequences, consequences that are far more bigger than what we would ever expect.

Here in my hostel, we the guys do this thing where we would come out and just lie about not eating since in that day, some even say they haven't eaten since two days ago. It's something that started as a joke because whenever someone says that they haven't eaten since that day because they have nothing to eat, we end up seeing them eating or cooking in their room the next minute.

So at first when someone says something like that, we used to take it serious but all of a sudden it became like a way to "catch cruise" so even someone who just finished eating a bowl of rice in our presence will clean his mouth and then tell us about how he hasn't eaten since three days ago and we would all laugh about it. It was a funny joke, it still is but I've come to realize that someday, someone here will regret ever joking with something as important as hunger.

I once told a story here about how when I was a kid, I would lie for fun just to see the way my siblings would react and then after watching their reaction for a minute or two, I would confess to them, telling them it was a lie before running away. It was a fun way to mess with my siblings until the day we went to church and I had seen a green snake lying on a green grass.

I remember running to my eldest brother to tell him about what I just saw and he had brushed me away, thinking it was another of my lies. Luckily, he eventually got up and saw the snake himself before killing it. That was the last time I ever told a lie for fun because I realized the damage I was doing to myself, making people not believe me when I say things to them.

The same thing is happening at my hostel today, when someone comes to me or anyone else to tell them that they haven't eaten, we automatically assume that they're joking and brush them aside, not knowing that he or she is being serious and needs assistance.

So yeah, there are certain things that shouldn't be joked with and this is definitely one of them.

Hmm!! One bad thing lies does is it makes people take for granted everything you say. Thank God your brother later listened to you. A lot of us do that casually in the name of joke, we don't know that it's creating wrong impression on the heart of those that listen to us. It took time before my mother starts believing my words too, I use to joke with serious things while growing up so anytime I tell her a thing she sees it as one of those jokes. It's not wrong to crack jokes but we shouldn't let it become a habit.

Yeah.. We should know when to stop and not take it too far or we will end up regretting it.

To be honest I also don't like making joke when it's about hunger. It's true current time it's funny but sometimes it will be heard the relief even if someone say it actually. That incident remind me about a story I read in my childhood. The story was "a liar Shepherd" .

Serious issues like that shouldn't be joked with. Unfortunately not everyone knows the harm jokes like that can cause.
