The Presence of the Mind

You know the saying that you don't know the value of what you have until you lose it? Well, I'm currently at that stage of my life where I don't wait until I lose anything before realising how much value that thing, whatever it may be, has in my life.

Recently, I've come to notice that I'm the kind of guy who could sit outside for hours, earpiece plugged in, song playing even though I'm not really listening to the song, while being lost in thought but still very much aware of the things happening around me.

This evening I had left my room with my phone and my earpiece, to go sit downstairs and just watch people as they walk by and go about their business. As I did that, the one thought that crossed my mind was that this people didn't know how lucky they are to be able to walk this freely, without any worries in their mind (although we all know that isn't entirely true.. Everyone has something to worry about).

But you see, the last time I found myself in a situation that could have really placed me in trouble was the issue with the lady with an iPhone who accused me of damaging her phone.

I remember being aware at the moment of how the peace of mind that I once had was about to be shattered by that whole case. Now that is something that doesn't usually happen to me, I mean my mind being present of the fact that the peace I once had but never appreciated was no longer there with me, unless I find a way to get out of that current mess that I was in.

Anyways, ever since then (and probably way before that whole thing happened), I've started to take note and really appreciate every little thing that I can do because there's someone out there struggling to do the same thing, I'm talking about something as little as getting up from the bed in the morning.
Trust me when I say there's someone who has vowed never to take it for granted anymore, if only they could just stand up and walk.

Luckily for me, I don't have to lose it to appreciate it anymore because I'm grateful for everything happening in my life and everything that I can do...from being able to stand up to go take a piss, to being able to close my eyes and sleep peacefully at night with no worries at all.

If you notice carefully you have a lot of things to be grateful. We ignore those and try to focus on painful situation and that's the problem of us. It's good to hear that you are grateful for many things and it will help you to establish peace in your mind. Keep going with the mindset.

Thank you brother... Being aware of the tiniest things that I can do these days now gives me a lot of clarity and makes me a while lot more appreciative for my day to day living. It's fascinating.
