The Physics Teacher

Recently I was doing this little clean up in my room when I stumbled upon my old high school notebook, physics to be precise and what I saw in it wasn’t good. I and physics haven’t really been friends ever since I found out a course like that even exist and I’m sure I probably laid a curse on that day.

But then I started going through some of the works I failed woefully and after going through the examples, I was able to answer some of the questions and that got me wondering why I failed a lot of it back in the days. And don’t get me wrong, I know some of this things gets easier for us as we grow up, two plus two was probably one of the hardest questions back in the days when we were kids but look at me now killing it without even thinking twice about it.

Anyways one thing I’ve come to realize that maybe I wasn’t all that dull, maybe it was the fault of the fifty something year old man who was my physics teacher at the time and who always looked like he was in a hurry to leave the class even though he just got in. And I know some of you might say I’m a bad workman blaming my tools but trust me when I say this, that man taught physics as if we could read his mind.

He comes into the class, writes an equation, solves it and then expect us to understand the whole magic he just performed in front of the class without a good explanation. Of course none of us could say anything to any staff, he was the principal of the school. He was also the man in charge of teaching us further mathematics, a more advanced type of mathematics.

If the man couldn’t teach physics properly, how in the world was he going to take us on advanced mathematics. We all were probably going to run mad trying to solve those maths questions (trust me, I’ve heard stories of people going crazy because of maths equations) and I had no plans of running mad and my classmates all probably thought the same thing too because we all told him we were uninterested in learning further mathematics and the man agreed without even an argument, it was almost as if we did him a favour.

And now as an engineering student, that favour has come to haunt me because all I do over here is mathematics.

What I’m trying to say in a nutshell is that if you’re a teacher out there, you better do your job well or we’re coming for you. And by we, I mean me, myself and I.

Two plus two is four by the way.
