The Mercenary

Everyone kept mute as the priest said his final prayers before asking that they lowered the body into the earth. Eric, just like everyone else at the burial had black and black on. He sat still and said nothing as family and friends came to offer their condolences. His wife had been murdered in cold blood and although he has avenged her death by killing every one of those men that night, Eric still felt the real perpetrator of the murder was still out there.

So the next day, Eric had gotten into his car and drove to Marcus home. For the past ten years, Eric had worked as one of Marcus personal bodyguards until two weeks ago when he told Marcus of his intentions to retire. He wanted to spend more time with his wife. Marcus didn’t like the idea of him leaving because Eric was his best bodyguard but the man had taken enough bullets for him already, it was only best he let him go.

Eric asked Marcus for his help, he had shown Marcus a picture he got from his cctv camera, it was a picture of one of the men who attacked his home and asked if there was any way he could help him get any information on who hired him. Marcus had agreed and had given the picture to one of his boys before escorting Eric to his car.

Eric knew if there was one person who could find the man, it was Marcus and he had not been wrong. On his way home, Marcus had called with news on who hired the men. According to Marcus, they had been hired by Djokovic. The moment Eric heard the name, everything started becoming clear to him.

Djokovic was a long time enemy of Marcus, Eric’s former boss. Eric knew how many times he had foiled the several attempts on Marcus life by Djokovic. He must have decided to go after the bodyguard who was preventing him from killing his enemy, not knowing that Eric no longer worked for Marcus.

Normally, an ordinary citizen would take this new piece of information to the police but there was nothing ordinary about Eric, so he went after Djokovic himself. He had first of all attacked his drug sites, burning all of it to the ground. Eric knew that would bring Djokovic out and it did. He got him where he wanted and he had wasted no time in letting him know he messed with the wrong person but just before Eric sent Djokovic to the underworld, the man had begged for his life. Djokovic had sworn that he knew nothing about the attack on Eric’s home and when Eric showed him the picture of one of the attackers, the same picture he had shown to Marcus, Djokovic had immediately recognize the man. According to Djokovic, the man from the picture was one of Marcus private mercenaries.

This new piece of information had come as a surprise to Eric but it wasn’t enough to spare Djokovic’s life, so he had put a bullet in him before going home to do more research on the man from the picture.

By the time Eric was done, he was so furious that he had immediately gone after Marcus. Djokovic had been right after all, Marcus had been the one who sent the men and had used Eric to eliminate a long time enemy but what Marcus didn’t know was that he had just made a bigger enemy. Eric was coming for him, he was coming with everything he’s got.
